Right now the maximum capacity is 128GB and SanDisk is coming out with a 200GB card, which will work with all devices that are compatible with the 128GB cards, later this year. We should have 256GB cards shortly after that which will theoretically work with the Surface 3 once they are released.

I have had a 128GB microSD card in my Surface Pro 3 (i5 256GB) for a year now. Been fine. Toying with selling my Surface on craigslist for the Pro 4.

Question: what is max size microSD card a Surface Pro 4 and/or Surface Pro 3 can accommodate? Is it Win 10 O/S limited or hardware?

Thinking of selling my Surface Pro 3 (i5 w/256GB) + 128GB microSD card to buy a Surface Pro 4. Anyone know what max microSD card the Surface Pro 4 can accommodate? 256GB, 512GB, 1TB??? Same question for Surface Pro 3... max readable microSDS card.

Thanks all

It's not OS or "PC" related but (micro)SD "hardware" related and the max size for a (micro)SDXC is 2TB. So as soon as there are 256GB, 512GB, 1TB or up to 2TB microSD cards you can use them in a surface pro 3 or 4. (or even in a Surface RT)
