Surface pen eraser button not triggering

I have a Surface 3 with a blue Surface pen. I've had an issue with W10 and the W10AU where the eraser button will work after I've pulled and replaced the battery, but will stop responding at some point afterwards. I can still write and erase no problem, but clicking or double clicking the eraser button will do nothing. The pen always seems to show up in both settings and the Surface app, and the app reports it having 71% power.

Anyone had this experience?

I have the same devices but my brother hasn't reported such an issue (he uses it all the time)
