Considering surface book but... inking seems off

Went to flagship store in NYC
I am thinking of a model between $1499-1899 i5 variety
Inking is important to me
Mind you I have had every surface prior to the book including a pro 4 model
The in store devices seemed to a crap shoot using one note and stylus
Compared to my iPad pro almost unresponsive
Is it just the store units ? Are they not the latest?
I really want to believe
I like the screen size and keyboard
I am just not sure
The i7 seems to be much better but I can't drop that much cash
I returned the pro back in the day because of all the driver and power issues

Is inking ok?

I have had no problems with the stylus/inking on my SB. Were the problems just in OneNote? If not, maybe this was a battery issue?

Seemed to be in one note

Was doing a bit of processing that didn't look natural

Like writing some notes the lines looked like they were straightening out a bit

Yet the shape recognizes was not on
