Surface Go won't wake USB-C monitor

Hi,

This has been driving me crazy. I have a Surface Go attached to an LG 27UD88 monitor via USB-C. When I turn the Go on it starts up just fine but the monitor won't wake and the Go doesn't recognise a monitor is attached. The Go is charging okay and the USB mouse and keyboard (which are plugged in to the monitor) are working so the monitor-Go connection is working for power and data. If I disconnect the cable and reconnect it the monitor immediately wakes up and everything works as it should.

I've tried everything I can think of but to no avail. Interestingly, when waking the Go up from sleep it wakes the monitor just fine. The problem is only with starting up from cold.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Any suggestions for things to try?

Don't know if it's relevant but I'm running 4K @ 60hz. This means the USB ports on the monitor are limited to USB2 functionality (doesn't matter for a mouse and keyboard).
