    I accidentally dropped my surface 2 a couple days again... :-(

    It fell probably about 3 feet onto asphalt, right onto the corner. It still boots up and the LCD works perfectly fine, but, as you can see, the screen is all cracked up and it thinks someone is always touching at the bottom of the screen, so it's not usable. I ordered service from Microsoft, waiting for them to ship the replacement.

    Sad way to bring in the new year...

    Why would they replace it? Did you purchase protection against drops? I assume you did.

    I paid for OOW service. For cracked screens, they apparently just replace the device. But I had to pay quite a bit.

    Microsoft extended warranty covers drops. You did get one didn't you????

    This is odd, I got my replacement (It's working awesomely), but they removed the charges from my card.... Including the OOW fee. I wonder if that was just a hold too until they assess the damage and costs?

    It looks like it is just surface damage. Sorry, couldn't help myself. Glad you're not out another $450 - $550.

    The OOW (out of warranty) service fee is $200, but I did an advanced replacement (they put a hold on your card for the retail value, but don't charge). Both of those are missing from my card statement now. I hope it stays that way. :-)
