When I've just searched for updates I found this service pack 1 update, it wasn't visible till I tapped details button. Is it ok to install?

I just got one and am updating the hell out of it before I make any changes. Plus waiting on a 8 gb usb stick to make a backup before I delete that from the driv eto free up more space. I notice when I go to the update screen some stuff is unchecked. Should I check all or let it do the checked stuff, then come back? Sometimes it seems to freeze on the updates showing no progress, yet my router activity light blinks like crazy and other wireless devices are turned off. Other times it says its downloading, but I see no router activity? Also when it says its rebooting the screen seems to stay lit, it responds to touch by showing demples on the screen where you touch and if you press the windows logo on the botom center it vibrates. Is it locked up or doing something? Thanks. Just trying to get a feel and hand on this thing.
