Anyone planning on getting the $499 S3 with 2 gb ram? Will it perform?

Won't Windows 10 allow apps to be saved on external storage (aka SD Card)? With Windows 10 I think storage won't be as big an issue.
Throwing rocks at Mars... L1320
If that is true, then that is excellent news. I've been saying that RAM is not the issue on Windows tablets but storage. I have a few Windows tablets and I've never run into issues due to lack of RAM... storage however is a constant battle. :)

One of those tablets, Insignia 8" Windows tablet has 1GB RAM / 16GB storage. It runs the 32-bit version of Win 8.1 and easily handles the software I run on it... along with the added benefit of having backward compatibility support for Win16 apps.

Yes. Windows 10 has Storage Sense that allows installing apps to external storage.

I can't seem to find any verification that this feature is included in Windows 10. I've read about Storage Sense, but I couldn't find where it states that it allows saving apps to external locations. Can anyone provide a link that verifies that this feature exists?

I guess once you throw in the 4GB model and the keyboard you are already at $750. May as well just spend the extra $200 to get the i3 pro with the keyboard and not regret it.

I am kind of disappointed with how poor the battery does with the Surface 3 atom model. I was expecting or hoping for 12 hours. While YES i do want a bargain tablet. MS aint giving me much choices here for adopting my a tablet as my main PC. If the $600 got me the 4gb and keyboard then I would get it.

Or just get an acer, asus, dell i7 with 8GB of ram for around $800

I was very skeptical on this product. I've been wanting a Surface Pro 3 pretty badly but once you buy the type cover and purchase the i3 model, you're going to dump close to $1000 on it, which was out of the question for me. I've came so close to buying one so many times though.

Now that the Surface 3 released, this thing looked right up my alley. I was very concerned about that Atom processor, but I was currently using an old MacBook Air from 2010 that had a slow Core2Duo in it, so it couldn't be any slower than that thing.

I went to Best Buy and played around with the Surface 3 and ended up coming home with one. The in-store demo was the 2GB model. I pulled up a browser and opened 4 tabs, two of them websites that I knew were taxing. I also had a YouTube video playing and several Metro programs opened at once. It all ran very well even on the 2GB model. Even though I ended up buying the 4GB model, the 2GB one did shockingly well.

If all you want to spend is $500 on the tablet, I say go for it. Multitasking will take a hit with that 2GB of ram but as long as you don't go nuts, you're fine. On the 4GB model I have Steam running, Spotify, a browser with multiple tabs and Word 2013 running with no slowdown. I even tried running games like Half-Life 2, which ran at 60fps on 720p (30fps on 1080) and Castle Crashers, which shocked me.

It honestly is a nice little Windows tablet. I'm still running tests on it but I'm fairly happy with it. I still have yet to purchase the pen but I love the orange type cover.

I was saving for a SP3 before I went to Best Buy and played with the S3. I was so impressed with it, that I pre-ordered the S3. Anyone the fence about this device should go play with one before hating on it. So, far I am loving the S3. I am not much for gaming on the PC as I have the XB1. So, this thing is great. The Best Buy model I played with was 2Gb/64Gb. I did also buy the 4/128 model, but only because I feel if I plan to keep this for a long time, 64 Gbs of storage was not enough. I think 2Gb RAM is all the average user will need.

I am on the 2GB ram model. So far it runs like a champ. I use it for work, web browsing, and the occasional game. It has handled everything I have thrown at it. If I need to buckle down and get some serious work done, I have a desktop that does specifically that.

I got the 4GB model in case I need to use memory hungry apps while multitasking
I played around with the 2GB model at Best Buy using IE and the preinstalled apps and ran fine even with many IE tabs open plus a couple tile apps. There were no heavy apps installed to test with.
Chrome often needs more RAM and CPU than IE, so if you love Chrome with tons of tabs open, 4GB is probably better.
