Pen works everywhere, except the Surface app

I did a fresh install of win 8.1 Enterprise on my surface 3. Everything works great except for 2 things.

1) When i open the 'Surface' app, the pen is not recognized within that app (even though the dot still shows on the screen)
2) When i open the 'System' page, there is no Surface logo, which i believe used to be there.

Does anyone know if these 2 issues are related and if there is a way to resolve them ?

If you have just performed a fresh install, can you make sure you're completely up to date? It sounds like the fresh install might not have patched in these features. Try updating the app / doing some windows updates and see if you still have the problem.

Everything is up to date as far as windows update is concerned. And there aren't any question marks in the Device Manager list.

For issue #2, this is a simple registry line that can be inserted for displaying an OEM logo on the services page.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\OEMInformation]
