Windows icon does not work, how can I get it working?

Windows icon does not work

I have a Surface 3 with Windows 10 installed. The Windows symbol on the side of the screen and the one at the bottom LHS do not respond by touching it.
The one on the bottom LHS respond with the mouse and by touching it for 2 or 3 seconds and open a menu but not as originally when only was the selection of shutting down or restart.
It is a bug of the OS, the Surface or I have changed some option that I am not aware
I appreciate inputs.

Was this an upgrade from Windows 8.1 or a new device with it pre installed? Have you installed any software like Start Menu replacements?

Thank you for your reply.
Yes, I bought it with 8.1 and installed the free version of 10. The tablet worked very well and this problem it is only 3 days old. I have not installed any kind of software that can affect it like the type that you mention.
It is interesting that also I cannot open the search option on the menu that comes by pressing the icon on the bottom LHS

I was unable to find the cause or source of the problem so I run a restore to the 01/02/16 and all works Ok now.

I have found the source of the problem. The last Java update caused it.
