I called Surface the other day to see about getting my Surface 3 fixed knowing I would have to pay because it's out of warranty, but when I explained what was wrong with it the rep was very concerned and asked if I got hurt or anyone else got hurt I said no.

My battery is bulging and causing the screen to bulge, the rep then asked if anybody else was in the room with me when it happened and I said yes my wife hw then said OK no worry's Glenn we're gonna fix this free of charge.
Now I'm just waiting to hear from the higher support team to talk to them to get the prepaid shipping label to send it back.

That is concerning, the battery should not be doing that at all.

Awesome, to see the rep actually go over and beyond with the free repair.

Keep us posted.

The USB port in my surface 3 just failed on me a couple of days ago. Quite annoyed about it, going to have to see what MS support will do for me. Problem is, I'm quite attached to the S3, because it has a few unique features that really suit my use cases now, and I'm not too keen on any other surface, particularly the surface go due to some of the limitations it has.

I'm getting a power surge error, with nothing plugged in, and i've reinstalled drivers, and done a clean reset, but nothing has fixed it, so not a software issue. I presume that a voltage regulator, or some IC controlling the USB power has gone short circuit, and just means that it disables the USB completely.

I would have thought that for the price premium, these devices should be somewhat less prone to these sorts of failures.
