Hello All,

My mother just purchased a refurbished Surface Pro 2 and the store sales rep told her its able to update to Windows 10.

My question is whether she should update it to Windows 10. I read a few articles that say Windows 10 is very buggy on the Surface Pro line, but all the articles I found are a year old.

I'm also asking in reference to the Surface Pro 2 being an older model and its compatibility Windows 10.

Thanks in advance.

Do it.

Things can always go wrong and you will always hear horror stories not unlike how crime is relatively low in the US but still is perceived as high.

I think it'll be just fine.

I've owned 2 Surface Pro 2 machines (the 8GB/256GB and the 8GB/512GB). I had upgraded one to Windows 10 and left the other at 8.1. Way back when, it was definitely bad to upgrade to Windows 10 for so many buggy reasons. But now after a zillion updates, I can say it is worth upgrading to 8.1 for the SP2.

To be honest, I sold my 8GB/256GB machine to a friend and it has Windows 10. I kept my 8GB/512GB SP2 and it's still Windows 8.1 because it works so well and I have so much software installed on it. I do miss not having access to the Windows 10 apps (UWP) since many of the 8.1 apps are no longer being updated with all the current developer work being on the Windows 10 app versions. However, I'm migrating most of my work to the Surface Pro 4 (i7/8GB/256GB) and that does have Windows 10.

I still am using old Adobe CS5 which is a major pain on Surface Pro 4 because of how large the screen resolution is (buttons are microscopic). The SP2 only has 1920x1080 so the buttons weren't that small but on the SP4, I practically need a magnifying glass.
