Not much you can do about it. It came about with a firmware update not to long ago.
I have queried Microsoft several times, read all the TechNet articles I could find, and with W8.x and up with UEFI on the SP3, there is no way to install older firmware, or even reinstall current firmware. Once it's installed, it's installed. Done.
The one nice thing is that they have put in enough code with checks and balances that it's really difficult to brick the Surface line of devices during a firmware update (unless the firmware itself has bad code inside it, then all bets are off).
