Will the new Surface Pen work with the SP3?

I wonder if there is any reason why the Surface Pro 4's Pen wouldn't work on the SP3. It seems that with the pressure technology being in the pen itself, that it should just be a matter of drivers to make it work. Similar to the new Type Pad being backwards compatible, I hope this holds true for the Pen.
