will my old key board work with surface 3

I'm planning on buying a surface 3 for my wife who has the surface rt now will the rt keyboard work with the surface 3?

I assume you are asking about a Type or Touch cover keyboard. I don't know for sure about the RT model keyboard, but my instinct is that it will work. From what I have heard the Surface Pro 1 and 2 keyboards do work with the Surface Pro 3. The only problem is that it will not work effectively as a cover because the size and aspect ratio of the screen is different, but if you just want to use it as a keyboard it SHOULD work.

Also, any bluetooth keyboards will work just the same no matter which device, and you can get some nice ones (portable of full sized) for around $30.

Short answer... Yes.

Long answer, it will work, but it won't quite fit properly when you close there cover.
