How do the SP4 i5 16mb and i7 8mb compare to each other?
Does the extra 8mb makeup for a weaker GPU?
I assume the larger ram means better multitasking, but the larger CPU means powering through more intense needs easier.
Does the choice simply come down to work habits? Many things open at once = i5 or fewer things open i7?

8gig should be sufficient for most things, 16gig is for really heavy apps or games. I would go for i7, 8gig but thats personal.

The nice thing about 16Gb of memory is that you only need a 1Gb page file so you can produce kernel dumps if you need them. On my work notebook with 16Gb, I often have 3 or 4 Visual Studio windows open along with Outlook, usually at least one SQL Server Management Studio window, along with various and sundry other things and I never run out of memory. Besides better memory performance, if you have 8Gb, Windows is going to want to reserve at least 12Gb for a page file. With the small SSD drives these days, saving 11Gb on the page file is meaningful.
