I picked up my surface pro 4 on Black Friday for the deal $999 with keyboard, i5 8gigs ram and 256 memory, I am averaging 9-10 hours of battery life. Did MS do something to enhance it? My Pro 3 was getting 5-6 hours.

most probably it's the newer processor and the firmware updates that have helped

If something is going right, and it shouldn't be, don't ask questions haha :D
The only thing i can think of would be that the processor and screen are more efficient and use less power.

You getting a Bigger Screen
Higher Resolution Screen
Smaller battery
and longer battery life.

10 hours? I might need to download the latest update ASAP.

That sounds outstanding. I am really struggling with the crappy battery life on my SP4. In fact, it's so bad, I am really tempted to return it or exchange it for something with that lasts better.

I am doing almost exclusively light work (internet and file browsing).

I know this is not ideal, but usually if i do not have my adapter with me. I've disabled the default battery setting, and set the processor to not do more than 50% processing power, and lower brightness. Disable bluetooth.

I am averaging around 7-8 hours now. I am mostly using onenote, outlook, and other office apps. I use edge and do not have anything google installed as Chrome in the past used to drain my SP3. Not sure if they have optimized it yet. I have Bluetooth on, wifi on and usually have brightness set as automatic.
