Surface Pro 2 revision 2 - shipping!

Microsoft will ship (any new stock), a second revision of the Surface Pro 2, with a faster Intel processors (maybe other changes, but we don't know).
The new Surface Pro 2 will features Intel Core i5 4300U, instead of the 4200U. The difference? 1.9 GHz (2.9GHz with Turbo Boost) instead of 1.6GHz (2.6GHz with Turbo Boost). Intel GPU remains the same on both models the HD 4400. Power consumption is the same, at 15W.

So what does this mean for current Surface Pro 2 users? No much. The performance increase is marginal. The i5 4300U is a Intel newer model of the i5 4200U, so it could be Intel discontinuing the 4200U in reality. But none the less it's nice.

I just checked.. my Surface Pro 2, which I need to return as it's faulty.... has the faster CPU. So I guess it's a confirmed.

I just received my P2 last week and received the v1. That timing sucks.
With the new CPU you get some new features like vPro which are not present in the current (v1) processor.
I'm going to give MS a call tomorrow to see what I can do. Of course I'd like to switch it with just being 1 week old. (I don't care if I had this device for a couple of weeks, preferred months but just a few days??? )

Any new stock really means nothing since different pipelines could have older or newer, or both, for months. If they did not code a lot number variation into the serial number, it is also possible they cannot even easily tell you whether they are shipping older or newer. It is irrelevant as well in any case since they are really Intel marketing benchmarks - typically nothing real world about them and often virtually no difference in actual performance.

FWIW, my SPro 2 shipped on 12/26 and has the 4300U.

I installed the latest firmware... and it still locked at 2.6GHz... but only when I do a Windows Update check, I have Intel Turbo boost monitor, showing that it does reach at 2.8GHz.... so I guess it can reach it... but under very specific condition(s).

Basically, when using the system regularly, ans not using a software that pushes the CPU... and set to High Performance... Now I can reach 2.8GHz and a minute time 2.9GHz. Normally, it's 2.5-2.6GHz easy.
Under High Performance, you do year the fan kick-in....

My SP2 has the 4200u and it boosts up to 2.93GHz often. Of course, it could be down to a good chip. Some chips run better/cooler than others. Perhaps I got lucky.
