    With my SP2, I'm used to the display being able to turn off, but my machine remains connected to vpn and my terminal server applications. With the SP3, it seems to be going into connected standby which loses vpn and my terminal server sessions. I can't seem to find a way for the display to just turn off instead of going into connected standby when I step away from my computer for more than 10 min. Is anyone else dealing with this same issue or does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Chris

    hi, i don't have any surface models, but i believe the sp3 relies on its power profile being set to balanced (which is the default) if you were to choose, or make a new power profile from the control panel, it should then override the current connected standby settings and resort to 'old' behaviour

    something related here

    You can load any profile you want or get back the default desktop profiles if you edit the connected standby registry key.

    HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\CsEnabled (1->0)

    Once it's edited, reboot and all the profiles that are normally on the desktop will be available to you on the tablet. But then you disable connected stand

    Unfortunately I tried these suggestions and while it does bring back the options, it also loses all sleep capability an only leaves it with Off or Hibernate.

    Does anyone else have these issues with this device? I really love the SP3, I just wish I had the option to turn off the display without having it go into connected standby. I have a Cisco VPN that requires RSA passcode and I want to stay connected to Lync all the time, even when I'm away. With Connected Standby, I lose my vpn connection and therefore lose my Lync connection as well and all my terminal server sessions. At the very least if I'm unable to turn off the SP3 screen, I would like it to turn off my other monitors that are connected. Right now my SP3 will go to the lock screen and my 3 other screens go back but still have a feed to them causing them to use more power and produce heat.

    I would be very interested in this as well but for a different reason: I listen to podcasts and would like to just turn the screen off without it stopping to play. Is there any solution for this yet?

    I'm running into similar issues with the SP3 and it doesn't matter whether I'm on wireless or in my docking station on a wired connection. When the SP3 goes into power saving mode, both Lync and Outlook have a difficult time reconnecting when the screen comes back on. I've applied all the latest firmware updates and drivers available via Windows Update and there has been no improvement in the performance. The only way I've worked around this is to create my own power mgt setting and have it set to NEVER go to sleep and to shut the screen off after 180 minutes. While this still doesn't resolve the problem, it cuts down on the amount of times the issue occurs each day. There needs to be more advanced controls in power options to allow us to adjust the power configuration for the NICs.
