I have my doubts as to whether it actually installed. It installed "too quickly," and there wasn't the usual black screen during boot with text saying "we need to install an update" or whatever.

Since the update history and manual download pages haven't been updated yet, there's no way I know of to tell whether it actually worked.

My SP3 did a successful update now with this sequence:
First:
"Security Update for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems (KB3074680)"
Then a failed install with a following reboot (by myself) and then a successful install.....
"System Firmware Update - ‎23.‎07.‎2015" successfully installed on 24.‎07.‎2015

Did the exact same thing and it worked. Great and thanks :)

The "Two-Button Shutdown" technique did the trick for me!
Prior to this I also had to change to manual updates from automatic as it it wasn't even registering the other updates.

I can't post links as I'm a newbie on here but I here's the instructions I followed in case you're like me and have had no idea what the two-button shutdown process involved:

Basically, it?s simple enough: just shut down the Surface Pro/2/3 normally using the power button. Then, when it?s off, press the power button and the volume-up buttons at the same time, for at least 15 seconds. You may see the screen or the lighting on Type Cover (if attached) flicker, but keep holding the buttons.

Release the buttons, and let the machine sit for at least 10 seconds. Then, turn it back on normally. Hopefully, your problem will be resolved.
