It seemed odd that at times when I was carrying my SP3 and opening the cover, the screen keyboard would not come up no matter what. I had to use the cover keyboard to log in. Very annoying and unintuitive. Does not impress any would be buyer.

I believe the problem is SP3 remembers the last state you logged off (ie tablet or desktop). For example, if you were working in desktop mode and have to take you SP3 with you, you obviously close the cover. However, if you then are in tablet mode and trying to key in your password you cannot do so. Why? SP3 Still think it's in desktop mode and waiting for input from the hard keyboard.

The solution is to switch to tablet mode before closing the lid. Hopefully MS is aware and working on a fix.

Have others experienced the same issue?

One problem I cant figure out is why my SP3 will freeze on the 'Black Surface Screen' when I try to log in from a re-start in the docking station. I have to undock and do a fresh restart. Any body else has this problem?

My solution to the onscreen keyboard is simply unhook the keyboard, then tap in the password entry panel.
