Cant Transfer files from usb drive

Just got my sp4 and I can't transfer files from a USB drive to it. Nothing on the desktop indicates that it recognize the drive, although there is an icon that will allow me to safely eject the drive that is not shown

Not on the desktop but in the file explore. I am using the micro sd slot and it is fine. I will try the use stick later.

This is a lovely holdover from SP3. The USB port does not produce enough power to power some USB drives. The only alternative is to get a USB hub with power. I was hoping they would fix this. It should be allowed to power at least 1 drive or we should be given the option to have a full power USB and suffer less battery life if we want.
