I've known that the USB port on the SP3 is under-powered, but hadn't thought about it until just now. I just plugged my Lumia 950 into the USB port to transfer some files to my phone, and received an alert that the USB port had received a power surge, surpassing the power capability of the port, causing the port to stop working. I can imaging that something mechanical like a optical drive might surpass the power capabilities, but a smartphone? Even with USB-C, it should negotiate the capabilities of the port and the phone, and come to an agreement of what can be supported.
