I know that an RT device does not come with the ability to play DVD's or audio CD's. However, I have seen in the app store that there are people that made their own Windows Media Player apps. Some of them say they can play DVD's but I don't know if that is just for full Windows 8 or if those apps would allow for DVD and CD playback on an RT too? Is that possible or is there absolutely no DVD and CD playback on RT under any circumstances?

You can check on Microsoft website if it compatible or not or email Microsoft or if they have live chat support just chat to them.

You can always rip a dvd and play the mp4 file on the RT - otherwise, in addition to the non-existant DVD player software you'd have to drag around an external DVD player otherwise. Likewise for audio CDs - rip to mp3, copy files to RT, play them.
