From Linux and Android to Win8 and WP8!

Hey, everyone!

I grew up on DOS and early versions of Windows, and was primarily a PC gamer. I got my first WinXP laptop in 2005, and loved it. But pretty soon afterwards I started feeling like I "should" use Linux instead, because it was more moral ... somehow? I thought unpaid volunteers was a feature, and not a bug.

So I switched in 2007, and became one of those open-source zealots who tries to get everyone else to switch regardless of what their actual needs are. Which isn't surprising, since the whole time I actually loved Windows and had to persuade myself not to use it (yes, even when Vista came out). I actually ended up getting a boxed copy of Vista to put on my System76 Ubuntu laptop. :P

I paid $15 extra when I got my current laptop so I could get the Windows 8 Professional upgrade (this was right before Win8 came out), "just to experiment with it." Pretty soon I decided, you know what, maybe it's okay to use stuff that I actually like just because I like it, and made it my daily OS. I even switched from Firefox to the modern UI Internet Explorer. >_>

Not long afterwards I got fed up with my Android 2.3 phone, and bought a Lumia 520 on a whim. It's had a few of its own quirks, but it's the best smartphone that I've ever had. I love the high-quality games, and how simple and shiny everything is. It works so much better, and just makes me happier and less frustrated to use it.

I'm trying to learn how to write apps for it now. Wish me luck?
