Okay....so you can crop the photos on the 1020, but when you save that, you can't transfer that photo to your computer? Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but when I transfer photos to my computer it is the original photo and not the one that I zoomed in on, what gives? If that is the case, can anyone recommend a good program that allows me to zoom/crop the picture once on my computer? Thanks....

Your cropped image is saved as the 5MP oversampled image. If You transfer high resolution photos from Your phone (34 MP) it's not going to be cropped/framed. Whole point of this is that Your phone saves the high resolution image which it uses later for creating 5 MP images that are cropped/framed by You. After You frame Your image, check the 5 MP version, it should be ok.

Big storm expected tonight in the UK....I may, if I can be bothered, go for a little walk with my 1020 in the hope of capturing amazing photos of cars and cattle being thrown about like toy cars and toy cattle by 80mph winds.

Alternatively, I may just sleep through it.

    Watch this space...or not :)

Yes, I am aware the 5 MP is saved as the "cropped" photo. From your answer, it appears there is no way to save a cropped High Res photo. The phone apparently just saves the original full High Res photo. So, if I then move the High Res photo to my computer, what is a good photo program that would allow me to crop that? Is there such a thing? Thanks.

Personally, I use GIMP on my PC, because it pretty much does everything PhotoShop does, but its free and open source.

There is no cropped version of the high res photo. The high res is always full frame, whether you zoom before or after taking the photo, unless you crop it elsewhere.

Photoshop Elements or Lightroom are good if you want to do lots of photo edits, and don't mind paying Adobe. There is freeware out there, too.

The storm turned out to be an anti-climax. Rained for a bit but no sign of the promised 80mph winds. Other parts of the UK took a little bit of punishment though.

WOW! How the heck did you get that moon shot? Tips please? I've been trying and trying and all I ever manage to get is a huge white shiny blob :(
    Same here. He must tell!
Hi guys. About the moon shot, it says it in my Flickr stream, but I should have repeated it here. It _is_ through a telescope.

However, without a Lumia 1020, and the ability to control the focus, this type of shot wouldn't be possible with most camera phones.

Sorry if anyone felt misled - I should have repeated that here. Thanks!

Some Halloween fun. I'm liking the new camera app a tad better than the old in certain situations. This one turned out nice :)

Does anyone have any tips for using the 1020 at a fireworks display please?

Tripod, camera grip, long exposure, low ISO and being upwind of the display are what I have covered already.

Anything else I need to consider please?
