Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
Post below if you think your Nokia Lumia 1020 has any issues or isn't behaving as it should. This thread is for the discussion of any hardware or software issues.
Below is an overview of some of the terminology you may come across:
[tip]Soft Reset: By pressing down the Volume Down + Power buttons for 10-15 seconds (or until the device vibrates) you can perform a soft reset on your device. This is a little bit like a factory reset for your phone's OS only you get to keep all of your personal data. Think of it like restarting your PC. This is the first thing you should try if your device is behaving oddly.
Hard Reset: By going to settings>about>reset your phone you can completely wipe your phone of your personal data (ideal if you're going to send in your phone for repair or sell it). Your phone will turn off and you'll see spinning gears for a while (up to an hour or so) and when it's done you will see the same screens you saw when you first turned on your phone out of the box. You'll have to sign in with your Microsoft account again and start over.
How to make your Lumia's batter last longer: See the thread over at the Nokia Discussion Forum here.
How to reset your device's camera: Go to settings>applications>photos+camera>reset.[/tip]
Remember to keep your posts as descriptive as possible so that we can try to help you fix your issue as quickly as possible!

Connecting to a Wifi Network in airplane mode turns off Lumia 1020
Connecting to a Wifi Network in airplane mode turns off Lumia 1020
So I just got my Lumia 1020 and was trying to set it up without the sim in the device. I have done this in the past in case I have issues with the device.
(separately - you need to leave or insert a sim for nokia software on initial setup - AMBER I believe- to install correctly)
Scenario 1: AIRPLANE MODE WITH WIFI ON:
Company Wifi: WPA2 with AES encryption at 54 mbps (freq is unknown, but probably 2.4 ghz)
Phone froze while trying to connect. Soft Reset phone to get the 1020 to turn on. Tried again - turned phone off as a result.
I tested my 1020 in airplane mode with another WAP:
ICS on lumia 900: WPA2 with AES encryption at 54 mpbs (frequency is 2.4 ghz)
This worked.
Scenario 2:Cellular on without sim present:
Company Wifi: WPA2 with AES encryption at 54 mbps (freq is unknown, but probably 2.4 ghz)
Connected Fine!
I tested my 1020 in airplane mode with another WAP:
ICS on lumia 900: WPA2 with AES encryption at 54 mpbs (frequency is 2.4 ghz)
This worked.
Seems like this might be related to airplane mode... something wasn't turned on perhaps? I remember the 900 having wifi issues and data routing problems. It could also be my company wifi as my work RIM Bold 9700 can't connect but doesn't shut off... but the 1020 works in normal mode...so it looks to be due to the phone/software
I am going to test this issue on my home network at 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz with a netgear WNDR3700 to gather more data. Anyone else see this?

Re: Connecting to a Wifi Network in airplane mode turns off Lumia 1020
Had my 1020 randomly reboot once tonight. I wasnt doing anything but switching between apps. The camera was not involved. Read of others having this issue. Doesnt seem too bad yet, only once in like 10 hours.
Other issues, but I might just be missing it, is the feature to reframe images and save them doesnt seem to work. I click save, it says image saved, but then i cant find the saved zoomed image anywhere on the phone? what giveS?
-
Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
Nokia Pro Cam crashes and kicks me out to the home screen everytime I try to save a reframed image
-
Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
Hi @Apps2Infinity - Make sure to get the latest Nokia Pro Cam app update (version 1.6.0.2) through the Store. Once you update the app, you should be able to save the reframed images. If you have any other questions, reach out to our Care team @NokiaCareUS on Twitter. Thanks!

Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
I saw that the Glance feature in some of the videos had the Peak option. I don't see that there in retail models. Is that no longer included?

Mine didn't have it out of the box either. There is an update available for display+touch that adds the Peek option. Let me see if I can dig up the link for that app.
-
Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
I think display+touch | Windows Phone Apps+Games Store (United States) will get you set up. Click it from your phone to go to the app, then hit update.

Thanks, I didn't know that settings were apps too.
Along those lines, how do I tell how many apps need to be updated? the Windows store app never shows any app that needs to be updated, only if I open that app from the store does it say update.
-
Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
On the 920 the Store tile will tell you, just have to wait a little because it's not instantaneous. You will get them all eventually, or do them manually / individually if you're in a rush.
-
Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
Oh thank you so much! I was freaking out that the Peek feature was taken out! Got the update and we have ignition!!!
-
Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
Right, that's what I thought, but the tile doesn't show anything, nor does the app itself. Is there a way to force a refresh?
-
Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
Only some apps have a separate check for update feature / setting. For the app in question, go to the Store and find it, click on it, and if the app itself doesn't say update then for whatever reason the update isn't yet available for you. Could be any combination of region, carrier, device, OS, etc.

Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
Just picked up the 1020 and got back to office to notice that the windows/home capacitive button is not working. Have updated the phone and restarted to no avail. Gonna try to take it back if they have another one in stock. Any suggestions anyway?
-
Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
I've been connecting my new 1020 to my car's Bluetooth, both phone and audio. The XBox Music app plays fine, but every time I press play on the Audible app, Bluetooth crashes and disconnects. I've heard there may be a Bluetooth update soon. Can anybody else confirm that?
-
Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
My 1020 runs fine but I've noticed the display, not the digitizer over it, has very fine horizontal lines. They are not that noticeable when using the phone but on solid colors you really notice them. Could be a screen defect or maybe needs to burn in after a while. It's somewhat distracting but I can deal with it. Might take it in and see what happens.
UPDATE: after a day of use they're starting to fade. Hope they disappear!

My buttons are working but it seems the LEDs are not coming on. Anyone now if I should go bother with a hard reset? I reckon I'll get a replacement...

Same. Also Speaker grill is crooked which might be a future dust issue, and there is a piece of material under the glass on the screen which is quite noticeable as well as a tiny metallic looking piece of dust under the lens glass. Probably going to replace but maybe not if I have to drive to the Microsoft store to do it....

Turned off my phone started to charge it and now the led lights are lighting up. Ambient light remained the same as when they were not lighting up. Working now.

Ok after playing with it further I am noticing no rhyme or reason why the lights come on or do not come on. In a dark room it sometimes lights up right when I unlock, but other times it takes some time or doesn't light up at all. Weird. looks to be software though.
-
Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
I reckon we have a firmware update inbound. Mine do light up when charging now. Wonder if it is glance related. Anyway, now that I know they work, I will likely wait it out.
-
Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
Has anyone else come across an issue while talking on the phone. Where in you hear a rustling or wind....Not sure if it's just mine or if it's something from the Lumia's. My last phone was the Titan II. Just curious if it's just me. If so I may try and take it back see what the MS store can do. Put that warranty to good use.
-
Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
I'm assuming that the LED lights for Back, Windows, and Search are the result of both charging and/or proximity/light/motion sensor detecting brightness in the room. In a dim lit environment, it may flicker as the result of it being brighter or dimmer at any given moment. I'd bet they're on in the dark, and off in bright areas.
And as others have noted on the 925, they definitely light up when charging.

No, I've not... in fact, just the opposite... all of my calls have been crystal clear which is a dramatic improvement over the 920.

Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
I know what Glance is, but what is "Peek"? I don't see that option anywhere, and my 1020 received some system app updates yesterday (including display+touch)

It's part of Glance... if you go to the Glance section, pick it from the drop down of options (Off, Always on, Timed, Peek). Peek makes it so it will stay on screen for about a minute after display turns off and after that only if you wave your hand over it or some other event happens.

Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
Here's a question for the other anal ocd members in here. Anyone else notice the black on black splotches you can really only see when you are trying? My 900 had it horrible, my 1020 has it but only a few spots. Still annoys me. Best way to see it is download dead pixel checker and then put it on black in a dark room.
-
Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
Yeah I noticed that too. It has to be just the right conditions to see it, but it is there.
-
Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
My eyes must not be as sensitive, because I don't think I see what you're describing.
-
Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
So dmfar I've had mines since noon on Friday and everything seems to be working fine. I do get frustrated when taking a picture using the pro cam since the app lags horribly. Even with the update. So does the oggl app as well. Hardware wise I love the device. Only thing that I want is the ability to control the vibration just like we control the screen touch within the settings. The vibration is really light and I can't even feel it when it rings. It's too soft.
Sent from my RM-877 Tapatalk
-
Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
Agree about vibration... I have a feeling I won't be silencing my notifications anymore at work, which surprisingly will only really annoy ME, lol.

Mine has that too. Really only visible at night when the glance screen is on. Not much if annoyance, but it is there.

Returned the phone for an exchange and have had no problems, and the leds seem to work normally too

what was the issue with the phone? I'm close to returning just on merit of all the little issues, lint under glass, pieces of dust under camera glass, misaligned speaker grill and the dark splotches...but one thing I've learned, sometimes you downgrade into bigger issues when you exchange.
-
Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
I find rebooting the phone will get the apps to show up in the app store as needing an update

Here's an idea... inspect it before leaving the store. :)

Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
Crashed 10 minutes ago when using Groupon, the app was loading local deals then froze, even power button stopped responding, waited for about 10 minutes the phone rebooted.

Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
Picked mine up Friday noon ... just before taking my boys to "Pacific Rim" IMAX 3D.
Some odd behavior ... the phone would should no cell signal even though I had one ... calls and data.
Sunday morning we went grocery shopping in the local Stop and Shop in Fall River, RI. As usual, the signal is very iffy there. However, this time, when the signal came back, it was only for voice: the cell data connection did not come back even though the phone indicated 4 bars of LTE. I can make calls, send text messages, but no data connection, no MMS. Everything works over WiFi.
Spent some time with ATT tech support. I excused myself as soon as they told me the 920 sim was incompatible with the 1020 (I had picked up the phone at the Microsoft Kiosk at Providence Place Mall.
Thinking a exchange is in my future.

Download Access Point -- http://www.windowsphone.com/s?appid=...3-25c10463942d
Go to Settings, Access Point, and switch to an alternate profile and see if that helps. It could be that AT&T sucks in that area, but I've seen that help. :)

Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
Two oddities I've noticed so far.
1. The tap to wake is incredibly finicky. I have to double tap a few times to get it to work about 60% of the time.
2. When I reboot, the volume defaults to 13/30. Every time.
-
Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
I got my Lumia 1020 yesterday, it's frozen twice today. The first time I was listening to music I had on the phone and the music stopped, the screen stayed locked and I couldn't unlock it; it was just blank. After about 10 minutes it turned on. The second time it wasn't doing anything, I just unlocked the screen, went to my messages and the screen froze on my messages. This time I reset it with a soft reset which worked. In both cases my battery was getting to the point where it would switch to battery saver mode, could this effect it? I've turned off the battery saver option and will see if it happens again in the future.

Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
A couple of things, probably software related, ie Nokia Procam..
Customer transferred photos from PC that were taken with a different device. In the thumbnail preview on the phone, the clarity was fine, open it and it was distorted unless you zoomed in a little. Also, none of the pictures taken with the phone or else where would rotate. Performed a soft reset, still prevalent.
Will see if a hard reset is needed, but I don't think it will.

CAnt rotate where? On PC or phone? I didn't have any issues with rotation.

Yes, I just noticed the same issue. Have you been able to find a fix?

Mine too, also people sound like they have lisps...lol. Not sure if it has to do with reception or what. Sometimes the quality is great and I don't notice it.

Quality can vary greatly based on coverage and service, for both you and the person on the other end of the line. So if you live in an area where the reception varies, the call quality likely will too.

Yes I definitely hear that! Do you hear it with every call? It's just annoying enough that it might make me replace it. Has anyone tried contacting Nokia or heard them address the issue at all?
-
Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
I have noticed that sometimes the other person sounds tinny or far away, but adjusting the position of my ear seems to help. Maybe it's a issue with the speaker?
-
Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
Originally Posted by

I have not been able to fix it. I even did a hard reset and in doing so things have gone down hill. In the middle of the factory reset my 1020 froze at the "cog wheel" screen. An issue that was supposedly fixed with portico. Now my led lights only light up in a dark room. Not when charging like others have stated. I also have an issue that a poster stated where the double tap to wake up phone hardly even works. I just switched it to normal we will see what that does. I think I'm going back to the MS store on Friday to exchange. Again the noise sounds like static when talking on the phone. I hear it when I'm not on speakerphone and when I am. I have tried calling both cell phones and landline phones. Happens no matter what. I may contact Nokia about the issue but I doubt there will be anything they can do.

I have this same issue as well with this phone quality.
My issues are...
1. The charger that comes with the phone is (Painfully) slow and I mean after 4 hours of charging it's still not charged all the way!
2. I thought after taking a picture with Nokia Pro Cam you could go back to the picture and edit it like zoom it or open it back up in ProCam? I only get the option to crop, rotate & fix or open in Creative Studio.

Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
Annoying Bluetooth A2DP bug. I play music using the stereo system in my Toyota Prius through Bluetooth, it has been a couple of times, when it's playing I changed the song from 1020, it wouldn't play, it kept repeating 0 to 5 seconds on the Prius screen but no audio. The only way to fix it is reconnect the phone to the car. I have used Samsung Focus and Samsung Focus S the same way for years, never seen this before.

For me, the LED lights turn off when I go into Battery Saver Mode (at 20%, I think). When I plug in they come back on, and when it recharges above Battery Saver it is on. Also, the ambient sensor must deactivate the LED in bright conditions, because mine don't turn on in direct light, but turn them off and they come on. Hope this helps!

Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
Sometimes my WiFi doesn't connect automatically. My screen sometimes randomly goes black and I have to hard reset it. Also the phone randomly reboots 2-3 times a day.
-
Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
Anyone else have dust/particles beneath the camera glass? Often you can only see it in bright situations but in my experience it only gets worse as time goes on. I'm going to have to drive back to Troy it looks like...great.
-
Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
The black screen and reboot thing is a hub problem for me too. It seems that it's related to Bluetooth for me. Anyone confirm / deny and have a fix ?
Up to 2 times a day reboot and black screen issue.
Why ? Update ?
-
Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
My 1020 isn't showing in under Computer any more and the windows phone app doesn't see it either. I tried uinstall/reinstall the driver and rebooting. The drive does show in device manager and the device shows and it charges I just don't see it as a device.. uggh suggestions?
oh rebooted the phone.. that was weird.

Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
Every now and then (happens at least once a day it seems) when I go to use the camera (either ProCam or regular Camera) I get the all green screen showing up and can't take a picture of anything. Usually have to turn the phone off and turn it back on again. Don't know what is causing this issue at least once a day.

I've noticed the only cord that USB otg works with is the one shipped.

I have noticed some weird behaviour with my LED lights for Back, Windows, and Search buttons; sometimes when I turn on the phone they turn on and stay on, and sometimes they just don't turn on and stay off even when I touch them.
I don't know how its suppose to work on WP8 or Lumia phones, but on my Samsung Focus it works that if I touch any button it lights up briefly and then turns off after few seconds, isn't that how its suppose to work?
I am trying to work out what is the normal behaviour for the LED button lights on WP8/Lumia to determine if there is an issue, because it definitely works differently then on my old WP7.
Update:
Tested the power saver setting, when power saver is on buttons LED is off, but when power saver is off the buttons LED is on all the time, even when watching videos which is a bit distracting, any way to make it behave like on WP7, so the button LED only turns on when a button is touched?

Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
Should I hear sound in the video when speaking in to the top mic? Or is it noise cancelling? I tried recording a video in portrait and speaking into the top mic, but can't hear my voice. It works when speaking into the bottom mic, though.
-
Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
If you take a video clip (photos seem to vary) and then soft reset the phone, the video is gone. Lost my kid's batting practice today. Was on a call with BT and it locked. I soft reset the phone and went about my business. Went to show my wife the footage and it was gone. Since then, I taken other footage and then soft reset to see what would happen. In every instance it disappears. I took footage and then a picture following it to see if it was a list clip/photo thing. No dice. The video and the photo went away. I have some video still on the camera roll so it obviously does delete some stuff, but I am not sure if it is a time period thing or something else. As a side note, I also turned off the upload to SkyDrive settings thinking that maybe it was held in some limbo state while it was waiting for SkyDrive (I have settings for Wi-Fi best quality). No dice. When I soft reset and checked my settings, they were forgotten and back to on. Can anyone verify this on their phone for me? Take a video, make sure it is available via the camera roll and then soft reset and see if it has vanished? Thanks in advance.

I think that it is a "noise cancellation" mic on the top ... just speak to the same area, as when you are speaking on a call (or from far enough) ...
-
Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
-The volume of calls on the ear speaker is quite low even set at max (10)
-Camera cannot focus closely (Have to be about 4-5 inches away to focus). This basically stops all barcode scanner apps from working since you need to be very close to scan them.
Those are my two immediate experiences that I can think of as posting as a bug/defect.
-
Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
Noticed what appears to be two dead/stuck pixels on the Camera sensor (not the screen).
I was taking pictures in front of my house just now (at night) and noticed two green dots (looks almost like little crosses) that moved everywhere I moved. and showed up on every picture. Had the same thing on my lumia 920 (made a post about it). I wonder how many ppl have this same issue and havent noticed.
This 1020 is actually being returned b/c long story short, I paid full price, and then my upgrade showed up so I purchased one from the MS store. Definitely going to check that one. Brand new phone shouldnt have these issues.
-
Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
I am not able to scan barcodes in the search app. The image focuses for a moment but then blurs. The same thing is happening in the Bing translator. Is anyone else having this issue?

Yes, read two posts above yours lol.. I've also started a thread on this. They need to allow zoom for those barcode scanners. Our camera can't get in focus unless it';s about 4" away, and that's too far for scanning barcodes. If zoom was allowed we could easily do it from a 1-2 feet away.

Thank you for this tip. Saved me a trip to the AT&T store!

I just tried scanning text off of a CD (bio) and the code off of an apple juice and had no problem. The apple juice scan was done at about 10 inches away.

Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
Having an odd email issue with my POP email account. The email had worked flawlessly until I added my signature to the email. When I click the signature "On" and send a test email from the phone, the email stays in the Out Folder, and then the email account doesn't work (won't sync). The only way I seem be able to get it to work is to turn off the signature for the account. I have 2 POP email accounts on the phone and it does this with both of the accounts. Any suggestions or anyone else having a problem with the signature On for a POP email account?

Yeah...I meant that a brand new phone (not a newly launched product) shouldn't have stuck pixels on the lens already..hence its being returned. This is a bugs and defects thread...so we're posting defects on our brand new phones. Nothing to do with it being usual or unusual, otherwise this whole thread is worthless since any item can have defects.

The only bug I have is with the headphones connected and the volume going all the way to zero.

Issue updating ME tile profile pic
If you have a FB account and a MSFT configured on your Lumia 1020, you are unable to update the image when only posting to the MSFT account.
Anyone else have this issue?
ON YOUR PHONE:
1) Tap Me tile
2) Tap your profile image
3) Tap your profile image again
4) Select photo
5) Post new photo ONLY to your MSFT account, not Facebook.
Does your ME tile profile image update to the image you selected?

Just tried it. No, it does not update the tile image. If you get a chance will you refer to my post above, take a quick video clip, make sure it's saved, soft reset your phone, and see if the clip is lost? Thanks!

I'll try it. In the meantime, please vote here on the Me tile image pic issue. http://forums.windowscentral.com/nok...t-account.html

I didn't have this issue. The clip is still on my camera roll.

Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
Hello.
1. I am hearing similar sound quality issues as @broomcorn @nighthikr24 and @dogfacedsoldier. Even the call ringer sounds off to me. At times the caller will sound slightly distant or else it will sound like the caller is blowing right into the mic. I've tried is amongst a variety of phones and am getting varying results.
2. The double tap to wake on high sensitivity was an issue until I changed it to Normal as @dogfacedsoldier recommended. Thanks! Although I'm still curious why if on High sensitivity it would not be as responsive...
Outside of those two above, I haven't hit any other major issues; I'm looking to play more with the camera today. And possibly hitting up the AT&T store to see if they can help remedy the sound issue. I'll let you all know how that goes.

My issue with the sound has improved, as I now make sure my ear is centered over the speaker when on the phone, although I think the noise issue may be due to the fact I work around a lot of computer/network equipment and server rooms. As for the sensitivity for the double tap for wake, I think "High" is more for those cases when you are wearing gloves, as this was one of the features touted when it first came out, or that I have big fat fingers

Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
I've seen this as well under specific conditions of pitch black room with a certain amount of backlight on the device (mostly in the camera app or with glance on the screen). I went to the AT&T store where I bought it and they were less then helpful stating that they could not recreate it even after telling them to go in the back closet with the door shut. They looked at me like I was an *****. I thought I was going crazy. Not sure what to do but glad to know it isn't just me. Seems like something trapped behind the OLED panel maybe that shows up as a shadow under specific lighting conditions?

Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
Just a heads up, anyone considering the "just be careful" method over the screen protector method to protect their 1020 screen I would reconsider. I have taken immaculate care of my phone and have several light scratches all over the glass. Not a big deal to me and on top of that I'm going to have to exchange it anyway but just a fyi.

Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
Looks like I'm having bad luck. First one had a broken speakerphone. Got a replacement today and the vibration rattles like a rattlesnake. Not sure what to do next.

Just realized that double tap doesn't work if the sensor on the front is being covered (phone thinks its in a pocket etc and won't wake). Try keeping the sensor on the top near the camera completely clear and then see if it works better.

I discovered something today that sheds some light on the dark splotch issue (or non-issue depending on your pov). I noticed a horizontal line running across the upper portions of my screen that was only visible when the screen was supposed to be displaying black. It is really difficult to see this line because its not often the screen is completely blank (only on loading screens and pixel test screens). I think this and the dark splotches are so hard to see because of how the screen utilizes the clear black technology. My guess for the horizontal line is there is a row of malfunctioning pixels that are not backlighting when they are supposed to but it isn't all that noticeable because the only difference between a functioning pixel displaying black and a completely off pixel is a very tiny amount of backlight.

Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
Got the Yellow 1020 last Saturday. Noticed two issues with it:
1) the phone would reboot by itself for no reason
2) phone calls sounded like the person on the other end had a lisp of some sort.
Took it back to the store and AT&T first swapped out my SIM card to address the second issue and told me that a network update would fix the first one. The SIM card swap did not address the voice quality issue. Took it back yesterday and swapped it out with another phone. Phone calls already sound so much better! And no random rebooting no far! 😊
I did also pick up a Moshi screen protector ($25 but for some reason they were ringing up for $13 at the AT&T store). Love it so far! Doesn't interfere with the screen and doesn't look cheap like the Zagg products.

Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
So I picked the phone up on Friday at the MS Store in Natick, MA.
I haven't stopped futzing around with it since. One of the new features (for me) on a phone was the front-facing camera. Went to try it out and it just black screened and sat there. Nothingness. I could hit the home button. I could get back into the camera app again. But it happened again and again. Regular camera app(s) worked just fine.
So plugged it in overnight. After it was fully charged, I unplugged it and tried it again in the morning. Worked just fine! How??? Was it something to do with battery?
Later on in the day, I checked it again and it froze on the image capture (front camera). Damn. Then it started to freeze upon even opening the Nokia Pro Camera up. WTF!
Later I notice it had an update for a whole bunch of Nokia apps, so I let them download and install. From what I remember it still didn't work right. So I took it back to the MS Store to have them look at it and hopefully get a replacement unit. As my luck has it, I went to demonstrate and replicate my issue..... It. Worked. Perfectly. Walked around the mall the rest of the time doing anything I could to replicate it. It would do no wrong. OK, maybe I rebooted it after the updates and that's all it needed?
Now (the next day), I checked it again... it's having the same issues. The first time the front facing camera displayed its preview, but froze on capture. Now it just black screens whenever I try to use it.
Any ideas? Has anyone had similar issues?
I'm heading home tomorrow and the closest MS Store is 45 minutes away. Would I be able to take it to an AT&T store and see if they can help?

Even i'm also able to see those kind of spots when I'm in dark surrondings and open the camera app. Even tried using the Dead Pixel Test & Fix app, in that app when i open the black background and go to dark place i'm able to see couple of those black spots and they are very hard to find unless you want to find them..:(

i dont have a PEEK option either.

Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
If you don't have peek/double tap to wake, you have to update the display + touch system app

Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
Hey Everyone,
I like my 1020 so far, definitely not in love with it though. I've already replaced it once for terrible call quality and dropping calls...
My bluetooth was disconnecting every time i got a text message (on both the old handset and new one). Then I updated my cars Bluetooth (Microsoft Sync system) and now it doesn't disconnect when I get a text message rather my bluetooth says "The currently connected phone does not support text messaging via bluetooth". My Lumia 900 worked fine with this bluetooth and would notify me and read the text messages if i chose. I also tried the lumia 1020 on a bluetooth speaker and text messages didn't work on that either.
Anybody else had this issue (I hope), I don't want to have to bring this handset back a second time/if i do I'll just go back to my lumia 900, $375 and a 2 year contract is too much to pay for a phone that doesn't work with bluetooth... I also have the lines on the display when in a dark room on auto-low brightness in the black screen. Both handsets had this problem so I just figured this was a part of the phone display...

Say goodbye to text message integration. I had a 2011 F150 with Sync and it didn't work with my 920. I now have a 2013 F150 with Sync + My Ford Touch and it still doesn't work with my 1020. It's sad that MS can't get their mobile OS to play well with their Sync system. Crap like this is the reason majority will choose the iPhone/iOS over Windows Phone.

I had my same car with my Lumia 900 and it worked perfectly. My mother also has the Lumia 928 and it works (more or less) perfectly.
The 1020 doesn't even get a shot? It just outright, doesn't work? Jeez can I still return it, I care more about those features than a good camera. I'll just stay on my damn 900...

Re: Nokia Lumia 1020 Bugs and Defects
Can you make calls with the vehicles blue tooth? I also have a 2013 F150 with the sync system. I cant imagine ms wouldn't make their phone operating system work with their vehicle sync system. That would be a major mistake on their part. I can't imagine what they were thinking?
