Some 1020 vs 808 comparisons i found in the web today

I weighed the charging shell I got today and it weighs 24 grams. That makes the 1020 slightly lighter than the naked 920 even with the charging case. It would be a false comparison anyway since the weight of a 920 with the lightest of cases will exceed 200 grams.

I like the idea that I can try both, with and without charging cover in a real use - then decide it later which way I prefer more ... well, I use my Lumia 920 naked ...

Right now I am primarily using the transparent injection case sold through Amazon. It weighs even less and leaves the white color I chose for my phone still visible. It also comes off and on easily so I can substitute the charging shell or camera grip without any trouble. It also provides some raised protection all around, front and back. Simple but effective.

Superior edge sharpness on the older device. It might be that particular 1020..

ok, have to say, after downloading like 20 images, check it side by side, in almost all the images, 1020 pictures totally rock, totally trumps 808, the sharpness and detail are much better, while in low light, 1020 are very much have way more light.

I know i know, there are many factors that can be in play, like:

1- Its in auto settings, both are, may be 808 can do much better in manual, same can be said about 1020.

2- Its only 5mp images, not full 34mp.

3- 808 in this comparison looks defective or something wrong, may be the camera’s glass is not clean, for some reason the images are blury and unclean or not sharp.

Yes, difference between the two in this comparison seems larger, Michael Fisher is one of the best and most impartial reviewers anywhere, and that was Anton D.Nagy's 808, which he praised a lot..
In the other reviews (AAS/AAWP, pureview club) it's almost a tie, too close to call ... I think it is pretty safe to say that both are very very similar and pretty impressive and 1020 will almost certainly get better with subsequent updates (the 920 from it's release firmware to Amber has had significant improvement in image quality)

8 times out of 10 i preferred 1020 photo. Those 2 times i didn't was that colours looked too saturated. Sharpness, contrast and just pics looking clear overall makes 1020 images much pleasing to look at. I found noise not to be a problem in any of those photos.

808 may have true to life colours, but it makes images to look just boring IMO. 1020 is bit too much in that area, but i still prefer 1020 over 808. In some shots where 1020 looked too saturated, photo was either under or over exposed. When exposure was correct photos looked nice and not too saturated.

I just hope nokia does deliver improved images in firmware update, yes they did provide better pic with 808, 920 but that was before when they were new in algorithms, now they almost mastered the algorithms.

Mostly i want them to give us options over color saturation and sharpness, more megapixels options (3,8,12/16/20), video in 60fps and the other stuff that were mentioned in that other topic. these stuff will give us great control.

I agree with the above poster, 8 of 10 of these are better pictures, more sharper, much better detail. The other 2 were a bit "sunny", the sky and everything was just too yellow, like its sunset time.

Yes i want to capture sunset, but i also want to capture morning and blue white sky sometimes.

either something is wrong with that 808 either there is (maybe even deliberate) handshake... 808 can certainly do much better than that

Nokia took the 808 and adopted it for the mass market: sharper + vibrant colors that pop on that AMOLED even more. Most people would be impressed by that.. Apple proved it over and over again with their iPhone algorithms, especially the iPhone 4.. so it does work.

The 808 is geared towards a much smaller group of consumers.

That is exactly what Nokia were going after.. way more people would share your opinion than not. But if ask a pro/semi-pro photographer... 10/10 would go for the 808s presentation.

Dropped by the AT&T store again.. didn't have much time so I just clicked a few.
I really wanted to see the bokeh, zoom, and flash performance again so.. here there are.

The bokeh is pretty much identical... you can get closer to the subject with the 1020 which is a plus. Its also sharper by default, which I think will make it a better close up/macro shooter.

This is maximum zoom, which is the same as full resolution. 1:1 PIXEL ratio. Also, the actual zooming is much smoother on the 808 for some reason..
