Would you like 1020 to have 8MP option?

Gonna get the Lumia 1020 when its available in the UK. But what I really would like, is an 8MP option in addition! Really want to see what you guys think as well & thoughts are welcome! Have been looking through 1020's users photos - they're pretty amazing. However, it seems 5MP is a tad small & 38MP is a bit much / noisy for everyday; having 8MP oversampling option would be really great!

Would you like a 8MP mode in future firmware update too? Or is 5MP sufficient for your usage?

P.S. Yes it's possible to process the 38MP into 8/12MP photos, add sharpening - only on a PC; it also seems a bit too much work. Conversely odd, going all out enabling manual options on 1020, then to deny people of 8MP mode. The only reason I can think of, for Nokia not wanting to include a 8MP option, is it might confuse people who thinks 38MP > 8MP oversampled > 5MP oversampled (when it's the other way around). That said, the reviews have surfaced in favour of 1020's camera; 5MP oversampled shots are great - and surely 8MP wouldn't stretch the oversampling too much?

The 5MP photos turn out just fantastic, but more options are always nice. My worry is that less tech savy people are going to start to become confused as to what photos are best (People already seem to assume the more MP always equals better, which we know is not true in all cases).

Wonder what Nokia has to say on the subject.

I can't see any difference printing out a 8 x 10 photo using either a 3.1 MP or 10 MP setting. Couldn't hurt to add an 8MP setting to pro cam, but the DPI will be high enough at 5 MP where you don't notice much difference going higher. Then again maybe you want to print out something larger. Any sizes you're looking for in particular where 5 MP would yield too low of a DPI?

I use the 8Mpix option pretty much all the time.. I think its the best compromise b/w quality and size on the Sym version

There is nothing confusing about it

Yeah absolutely.

Shouldn't be any hardware/software issue stop to Nokia from enabling the 8MP option.

Hopefully the 8MP option will arrive soon via software updates. It's reasonable to assume that Nokia is working hard internally to tweak 1020's the camera to make it faster, and more feature complete.

not only that, i would like if they add 3, 8, and even 16mp. This is a camera phone, there should be as many options in cam as possible.

I'd like all the options on the 808.

3, 5, 8, 12 and 34/38 MP Modes.
12 MP Creative Mode had always been my favorite.

4K Video recording is a massive bonus.

So maybe the dev can do the same thing for the 1020

So in terms of priority to improve the camera - would this order in priority make sense? (from most to least important)

  1. Faster camera start-up
  2. Shorter shoot-to shoot time
  3. Added sharpness / saturation option
  4. Other resolution options

an 8Mpix image from the 920 would be inferior to an 8Mpix image from the 1020.. by quite a big margin

I'd have to see that with my own eyes before I believed it. I have compared the two side by side but the L1020 was shooing full blown 38MP images. Of course the L1020 blew away the L920. My guess, the L1020 would out-do the L920, but not by a large margin as you say.

Anyone having an L1020 and a L920. Please post a 5 MP only pic from the 1020 and then post an 8 MP from the L920.
