    I have bad credit, so in order for me to get the Lumia 1020 on an individual plan they tell me I will have to pay a $300 deposit PLUS the $199.99 intial cost for the phone. BUT if I put my phone on my family's Family Plan, I won't have to pay a deposit for the phone, just the $199.99. My question is, if I eventually switch my plan from the family to individual with no change in credit, will I have to pay a deposit still?

    Yes you will but I hate dealing with my credit too but att will give you deposit back then maybe next time you get you own plan you might not need deposit.it worked for me . Got with att they requests 300$ deposit and at the end of my contract them gave me back deposit and told me didn't need deposit this time so refunded deposit went towards new phone sweet huh

    Bad credit happens, that's why many companies offer some sort of spending limit program or deposit refund after so many months of service. (Typically 12 months)

    Just make sure you pay your bill on time. While your credit score isn't indicative of your character, people with lower credit scores have typically paid their bills later than most. The chance you will never pay your bill goes up the lower your credit score is. Pay for a year straight on-time and most companies are more than happy to refund your deposit. Think of it as insurance should you bail on them mid-contract after not paying for a $350 wireless bill.

    What about the reverse of the situation so to speak? [[[ i.e if I switch from an individual 2 year contract plan to a family plan but I had to pay a deposit for the individual plan, do I get the deposit back immediately or even at all? Can I even switch from a 2 year contract plan to a family plan without breaching the contract? ]]]

    I would call 611 on your phone if that is a feature to call your provider to ask.
