From my understanding, lithium batteries start deteriorating from the first day of use.

While you could argue that I would be on another phone in two years, I would still like to use my 1020 as a camera later on too.

All my past phones had replaceable batteries and I had a peace of mind knowing that I don't need to throw away the entire phone for a faulty battery.

I want to get a Lumia 1020, but the lack of replaceable battery is really bothering me.

Although my 160gb Ipod Classic is from 2007 and it's still got great battery, I am still not sure how the battery would play out after 2 years.

doesn't bother me. it's pretty to change the battery IF it does go bad.

I would prefer a removable battery, that way you can carry a spare. + if it dies it's easy to change without having to send it the phone for repair.

I wonder how long the 1020 battery holds up; surprisingly the one in my 2003 HP iPaq still works after more than a decade, while a battery in my VAIO did not even last two years.
I am hoping Nokia used quality components that will stand the test of time.

I've never needed to swap a battery in a cell phone - be it because it needs charging or has permanently died. I also don't do all the "turn this/that off" to squeeze a few more minutes out of them. As long as I can get through the day/evening I have no issues with one not being "user-replaceable".
