Don't know about this, but have you tried nokia suite? If its only the display that is broken, but the phone still starts up, might be worth a shot connecting it to pc and fire up nokia suite and see if there is an erase or even update firmware feature?

I mentioned using Nokia Care Suite earlier in this thread to maybe flash the phone with a stock rom.. however, I might just try the "blind button sequence" reset method first.

Oh...

My....

GOD....!!!!!

I just dropped and shattered the screen on my new replacement!!!! :(

I feel SO fvckn stupid rich now for not getting a case like I told myself I should. Went to turn the phone around to show my girlfriend something, and it slipped rich out of my hand and tumbled onto the concrete patio floor from a seated position (only fell from maybe a foot and a half height!)

I just want to find a hole to crawl in and die right now....

How long has it been? Maybe a couple weeks? And I JUST had that $200 deductable tacked onto this months phone bill making my bill over $500 for this month! Ughhh

I'm going to go to the AT&T store tomorrow and talk to somebody. There's no way I can do another $200 deductable right now.. I'm gonna have to be like "look, you guys gotta do something for me!" Another $200 for another 1020? A phone that's already outdated and last gen's hardware?

Anyone think they'll do anything for me? I do have an upgrade eligible on another line... Maybe they can swap me out by using the upgrade? Get a 1520 perhaps??

Ugghhhh damnit man!!! This totally SUCKS!

Welp.. I have no one to blame but myself.. It's my fault. I should have bought a case plain and simple. Why would I not get a case? Nobody wants to see a naked yellow 1020 anyway! I mean... Why do they even color them? Why? People have to put a case on these.. so might as well get a black one. Stupid stupid stupid Man am I stupid... Really disappointed with myself.

I guess I'm looking at another $200 mistake. I think you can only make a maximum of two insurance claims a year... So this better be my last one.

So which ugly azz case should I buy?

Ok, so I just made ANOTHER insurance claim. Another $200 deductable... You think I'll learn my lesson and get a case this time?

Strange thing happened too though, btw... I decided to call the claim in instead of using the website. Everything went through as it should, but at the end, as the lady on the phone was confirming my order/claim, she says "ok, we have a 1520 being shipped to..." "what, don't you mean a 1020?" I replied. "I'm only showing the 1520s as available sir"... So I guess I'm getting a 1520 as a replacement for my 1020. I didn't really want a 1520... What about my 41MP camera? And my Xenon flash??

Uggh..

I guess the insurance company is out of stock on 1020s and have only 1520s to replace them with. I don't know how I feel about this just yet...

I suppose if I really want a 1020, I could buy one off eBay or somewhere. It's not like anyone will care if my pictures are 20MP versus 34-38 Mega pixels. The absence of the Xenon flash with take away some of my photography possibilities though.

So what's a good (and good looking) case for the 1520?

There's more to the differences of camera between 1020 and 1520, than Xenon flash and Megapixels. I own both. The 1020 is just better, especially when your not outside in perfectly kit scenes. The 1020 mops the floor with the 1520 indoors.

As a phone, I prefer the 1520 in every other area though.

Exactly, that's why I didn't really want this 1520 as my insurance replacement. I take a LOT of pics with the 1020. I'll definitely have to buy one for my camera needs, as its got me spoiled.

Of course I do still have that upgrade still on that other line. I could get a 1020 on that line, or wait and see if they come out with a real 1020 successor sometime this fall/early 2015? (wishful thinking here!)

The more I think about it, the more I'm part excited, and part saddened. It's kinda weird how I'm being forced into this upgrade, though completely my fault...

As long as you can manage the size, you'll love the 1520. Beautiful screen, loud speakers, great battery life, faster than the 1020. When I grab my 1020 now everything seems too cramped and hard to read. This 6" phone really spoiled me. It will probably feel ridiculous at first, but after a couple days, it will feel more "normal".

Thanks for the reassurance. Managing the size might be an issue as I usually keep my phone in my pocket... Maybe I can get a belt clip thing or something.. Hmmm

What about cases? I want Otterbox Defender protection without Otterbox ugly lol..

Hey you know what would be cool? If the 1520 got here and had 8.1 installed out of the box! lol

Yeah, I'm currently in the dev preview on the broken 1020. Still kinda bummed out about breaking another one... That makes one 920, and two 1020s that I've dropped and shattered the glass on... I WILL be purchasing a case for this 1520!

Any recommendations?

Wow ya make sure you get a case for the 1520. I've had a 920, currently have a 1020..dropped both many times without any scratches or dents....you wont want to break that 1520 beautiful screen.

Thanks for the suggestions. Is that Nilkin a screen protector or a case? I'm not sure I'd like it if I doesn't sit flush with the screen.
And idk about a "gel" or "pudding" case either.. Those don't sound like they'd protect from a fall/cracked screen.
