Well I really appreciate you sharing this piece of information, because this is the way I was leaning to, the developer preview.
I'm still going to wait and see if/when this version will be updated.
If not, I guess I would flash something that might be compatible with T-Mobile.

FYI i have tried 2 other roms, RM-915 VAR LATAM AR CV SKD (059T203), this one has LTE disabled (as there is no LTE deployed in argentina yet), and RM-877 VAR MVP LTA YELLOW (059T9Z8), which is the unbranded latin american region variant and everything works but as of yesterday it wasn't updating to cyan, went back to the telus one.

You know you can flash it back to WP8 without sending it to Nokia through their own software, at least it worked in my case with the 1520.

Hi Sniper:

Yes, I know about that, but the NSRT and the NSUR told did not recognize my phone. I've used it on my other 1020, which is an AT&T one when I gave it to my wife to replace her iPhone. It worked flawlessly then, but didn't at all on the network unlocked model I had gotten for myself from the Microsoft Store.

Just spent over an hour on the phone/chat with T-Mobile and Microsoft.
Microsoft insists that the update will come from provider, but it just seems the support the have are completely clueless about anything, horrible support!
T-Mobile explained and verified the system and the model does not show up, as is not carried by them.
She told me, the update(s) will not come from them, and there is no updates for this phone on T-Mobile system.
They told me when phones are sold unlocked, updates come directly from phone manufacturer as there is no partnership involved.
She seemed more reasonable.

But again, when I first booted up the phone, the first thing I did was go into the update, and I did perform one, so our phones are going somewhere and is not T-mobile.

Ok... finally, requested technical support and have call escalated at Microsoft.
They will provide the update for all the unlocked version sold on stores.
No ETA at this time, this update is independent of your service provider, all unlocked version will receive the update once it becomes available and will be provided by Microsoft directly to all unlocked phones sold on stores.
The update will come, they just don't have ETA.

I will stop by the Microsoft store in Milwaukee and ask, the folks there seem to know their stuff compared to the AT&T stores that seem only to know androidese or applese....

Waiting for 8.1

SMH.... Its going to get the update. This thread is all the more reason Microsoft needs to pull back the reigns on allowing ANYONE to be a developer. You guys are buying things and updating them without knowing what you are doing. Then to top it off, the carriers and Microsoft get blamed for a result you don't want/didnt expect. Be patient, common users. Your precious update will be along soon.

Allen, it would be nice if the unlocked version actually worked with AT&T. I didn't flash the Roger's rom because of Win 8.1 preview issues. I had it back to 8.0 (had to exchange the original) and would have waited patiently for the official update, but I couldn't get LTE, couldn't use Network Sharing/hotspot, etc., and AT&T and MS each blamed the other for these issues. After many hours with them, I gave up and used the Roger's rom, which ironically resolved both the LTE and Network sharing issues on AT&T. I was at the MS store while talking to AT&T support and MS support. AT&T gave the lame excuse that they don't guarantee either LTE or network sharing on an unlocked phone, and said that the 8.1 upgrade would not change that. What options are they leaving me with?

Hello All,

Just wanted to add the response I got from Nokia:

------------Email received today--------------------------------

Thank you for getting back to us.

We understand that you would like to know how and when you will receive the Lumia Cyan update for your device since your phone is not an AT&T variant. In response to this, we would like to inform you that rollout timings and feature availability vary by phone model and it has already started rolling out. We expect the update to be completed in the third-quarter of this year. Your phone notifies you when an update is available. You may also regularly check available update for your phone by going to “Settings” > “Software Update” since we are unable to provide an exact date and time when this update will be available for your device.

Moreover, we suggest to visit the link below for latest software release for your phone in the USA:

He bought a retail phone and wants the official update. Completely unrelated to your rant...

torbach1: May I ask little OT - you was able to flash unbranded LTA firmware into AT&T lumia 1020? Did you find any restrictions (except not available cyan update) like bloatware, missing menus, sites support, less languages to choose...? Thank you.

Umm... My "rant" was spot on topic of the OP. Bought a phone and thinks Microsoft will not update an unlocked retail phone. Its bologna I say! No one wants to wait. The 1020 just today got an update in the US. The unlocked ones are right behind I'm sure.

Hi Mr. Kaja:
I didn't flash unbranded rom into my 1020. My 1020 was originally the network unlocked, non-carrier specific version that MS was selling directly. In 8.0 mode, I couldn't they either LTE, or Network Sharing to work despite his on the phone with Microsoft, AT&T, and Nokia. I then tried upgrading it to 8.1. That didn't fix the LTE/Network sharing issue, and it broke video capabilities. I was then unable to get it back to 8.0, because Nokia did not have the unbranded rom for the 1020 on their servers. So in order to solve both problems, I flashed it with the Roger's 1020 rom.
That sorted out everything. The LTE on At&t's network worked immediately, as did network sharing.

The day that the official Rogers cyan and 8.1 update came out, my phone was updated.

Apparently the Roger's rom is penta band, and supports more frequencies. Either way, it sorted out my issues, and I'm happy with the phone now, ruining on AT&T, and will use a Rogers sim when I travel to Canada.

Damn.

What now

How do i get the official cyan update, I'm on developer.

Well, its being blocked if you're in the Developer Preview... You either need to wait until MS updates it with a fix for Bitlocker or downgrade to 8.0 and then install it OTA from the carrier.

Edit: I actually explained that to you in your thread about how to get 8.1. ;)

Yes. Got it. But I think I'm held back by telus. They do not have their update yet. But my phone is working fine. I need cyan for smartwatch and fitbit capabilities.
