Why do I get a random Sim Card Error?

Sim Card Error

Hi I need urgent help. I live in the UK and have a nokia lumia 1020 locked to Vodafone. I haven't had this phone too long from ebay and my sim is also Vodafone. The phone randomly comes up with SIM ERROR; both when using it and when it is idle. Turning it on and off works occasionally but not all the time. Is there any reason as to why this is happening. I have the latest version of windows currently available for the Nokia Lumia 1020.

You need to determine IF it's the sim, or the phone ...

Does the sim work in another phone?
Does a NEW sim work in the 1020?

Possibly use some canned air in the sim slot, to blow out any junk.
