Not owning a wp before, i wondered how the sd card integrated into the phones, for example the 1320 only has 8GB internal memory, but if a 32/64gb card was shoved in, is it treated effectively intergrated in the phone, so wp thinks it has 40/72gb, or as separate memory, like androids do, where even if you tell android to put it on the SD Card, it still stores somne of it in its internal memory, and therefore you get low space warnings?

Also, how much memory do you actually get to work with? Ie, on my wife sgs4, it was 16gb phone, but only had about 8gb to play with after the OS and all the samsung bloatware was installed. Again, this may limit what phone I get if there is not much available "working memory"

    TIA

    FWIW : I own a Lumia 1520 ...
    - the SDcard is separate memory, but, WinPhone 8.1 allows (most) apps to install on the card.
    - my Lumia 1520 has 16GB internal memory = ~~ 14.5GB available (with system consuming 2.8GB of that) = 11.75GB available
    .......... 32GB SDcard = 29.25GB available

I would imagine there are pointers in onboard storage to apps installed on the SDcard, but, it doesn't appear to consume significant memory. Currently, between onboard & SDcard, I have approx 30GB available, with copious amounts of pictures & music loaded to the phone. I d/l whatever apps I choose, but manage them, appropriately. I have NO issues with the storage capacity on my Lumia 1520 (& it supports up to 128GB SDcard !).

Once you set storage sense to store your photos, videos and apps to your SD card it will stop using your internal memory unlike DUMBdroid. WP will treat your SD card as separate memory and with 8gb internal memory you have around 5.3GB free
