I googled this thing for days and I know all phone OEMs specifically say 64gb.
But since with these powerful quad-core processors and all this RAM wouldn't phones be able to hold them ?
Or is it some intentional software limitation ?

The only thing I managed to google is that some guy on an Android forum managed on a Note 3 (if I recall corectly) to put an 128gb card and it was working fine.

Before you ask what would I need that much storage, save it.
I do use my storage and that card extension is one of the reasons I decided to get the 1520.

    Thanks

Certainly not an expert on this subject but the device manufacturers would certainly list 128GB if they could. My thought, you can put a 128GB card in, and it will likely work. Whether it is stable is another matter.

Is there a difference between MicroSD and MicroSDXC ? Especially in physical size.

It seems that there are no MicroSD cards of that size, only of XC.
I think that would be the only problem.

128GB would be microSDXC I assume? As far as I can recall you can use those on SDHC rated devices as long as the SDXC is version 3.

Of course. There are plenty on Amazon. You can find even 256gb ones.
    And not from shady shops

Micro SD can go as far as 64 GB to my knowledge. The 128 GB and bigger ones aren't Micro SD but just "regular" sized SD cards.

There is an unofficial support list gathered by users and sandisk's compatibility tool that mentions that the below phones should work with the sandisk 128gb micro sd. there may be more but they are adding as people mention that it seems fine also there was a confirmation email that said:

Thanks for contacting SanDisk Technical Support. It is our goal to make sure you have all the resources you need to get the most from your product.

Please allow us to inform you that 128GB microSD cards are built to conform to the microSDXC standard and since your phone is currently working with a 64GB microSDXC card we see no reason why the 128GB microSDXC will not work; however we have not tested it so can't guarantee one way or the other.

We remain at your service for any additional information or assistance.

    Best regards,

LOL! If you need 128GB of storage on your phone, you're putting too much on your phone.

Not if you capture RAW photos or use your phone as a PMP.

why do people have such negative opinions about lots of storage? The people at cell phone stores will always tell you 16 or 32gb internal is all you really need. I tend to think the more storage the better. I have 24gb of music in high quality bitrate, another 10gb of photos and rising...and yes I like to keep it all on my phone - I hate having to move files around to preserve space, and cloud storage doesn't cut it for music and slow photo browsing.

LOL! Maybe I am naive or ignorant. Seriously, who wants 6000 songs and 3500 photos on their phone. You'll get callous finger just scrolling through them.

I would like to just simply not have to worry about ever running out of space :) It has also always been my dream to have my entire music collection on my device, hit shuffle all and enjoy the diversity :)

**well not my entire music collection, but it would be way easier to pick what to include lol

They don't make a SD card big enough for my music collection, and honestly this isnt even all of it.

Good thing you don't have to scroll and can directly to artist/album/song using the first letter navigation. Also, you can sync playlists also, which is super handy for people like me who have built massive music collections and customized them throughout the years. I usually keep it simple and just sync my fav playlists once a week to keep things fresh. Also, really really love the Nokia Music auto mix feature. Plug in your three artists you wanna jam, and good to go.

You would definitely need to wait for the 512GB memory stick for your 58,000 songs.

I don't want to have to guess what music I'm going to be in the mood to listen to days ahead of time, so it's just easier to have all of it handy. An iPod could do this for me six years ago; no reason why my phone shouldn't be able to do it now.
