Yeah, I just looked again and the description is rather incomplete. The box that I got via Amazon included the mount and two plates of differing thickness. I think that MounTek sells extra plates in case you have many devices that you want to occasionally mount in the car.
I got my phone earlier today (yesterday actually).
@mozman68 I was going to use a full Skinomi skin and attach the Rokform to the skin. After looking at my dash (09 Altima) I just dont see a decent flat surface to mount the car mount and easily access the phone. Also after having the phone in my hands I dont think a skin is enough, even though I'd prefer the phone naked. The 1520 is kind of cumbersome in my hands ATM so I think I'll be getting a full body case for grip and some added protection. Ill just use the screen protector from Skinomi and take it from there.

The nGroove snap mount provides me with a better placement of the phone in my dash, so that and a full body case is the direction I'll be taking. Now to just choose a case, lol.

Well...I'm hoping at least the Incipio feather case is rigid enough to mount the Rokform clip to...looks like it is. The proclip mount will hopefully give me a good placement for the phone, but I haven't mocked it up yet. My only concern is that it may block too much of my stereo. We'll see.

Worst case scenario is that I buty the Rockform windshield mount and go with that.

I dont know about you but I really hate windshield mounts in general. The Mountek nSnap groove's CD slot position does obfuscate your view while driving.

I had the regular proclips phone holder on back order and while I was waiting for it I decided to try the Incipio PMA Wireless Charging Case. So my 1520 will no longer fit the custom size bracket. I thought I'd try their universal bracket but I hadn't like that type of 'slide -and-clamp' bracket in the past. So, as was suggested upthread, I've ordered the iOauto Pro Magnetic Mount which works with my proclips car mount. Should have it by Tuesday.

I have seen some people mentioning the Mountek holder that uses the CD slot. I have had one for about 2 years and it has gone through 3-4 vehicles. It does a good job and I would suggest it for a cheap solution. It will not damage your CD player as long as you use some common sense (tighten till secure and stop). However, it does have a couple downfalls.

    THE GOOD:
Fits in every vehicle I have tried.
Mounts to car securely without damage or modification to the vehicle.
    Accommodates very large devices .
    Easy access quick release
    Low cost and durable.
    Has a strong clamp.....however..

    THE BAD:
The foam rubber does not generate enough friction in the clamp, so a heavy device can slide out when vertical (replace the foam padding with something stickier).
Bulky and unsightly when not holding a device.
Can partially block the view of head units with large displays or touch screens (can be inserted to the CD player up or down to offset vertically, but not by much).
frequent adjustment of the swivel mount causes the tension screw to loosen. It is not easy to tighten and may require a screwdriver (flat tip) on occasion.

In all, it has withstood a lot of use and has already paid for itself. If you need something that will traverse multiple vehicles and can accommodate various devices, this is a good choice. You may find a need to replace the foam padding with something more rubberized in the future.

Nice review! Couple of questions...does it ever accidentally touch or activate the side buttons (power, camera, ect)? Also, when you said a "heavy device can slide out vertically"...were you referring to the 1520 specifically? Do you have the 1520?

I'm thinking about getting this because..... 1. there is no mess or stickers that need to be put down for suction, and 2. It'll keep my 1520 out of the dash and sunrays for extended periods of time...plus I'd rather not have it in my direct line of view while driving (if it were up on the dash, on the window).

    Hope to hear back...thanks!!

The side clamps are solid and wide. However, the foam cushion that grips the device has a cutout in the middle to minimize button pressing. Also, it is durable and strong enough to offset the phone so that you can still access the buttons. For example, I usually clamp it on the bottom half which covers the phone button, but the others (volume/power) are accessible. With that all said, I do have a slim case that makes the buttons flush with the case, so the clamp cannot activate a button press. So, if you're running naked, you will have sweet spots and bad spots when putting your phone in the mount.

Also, when you said a "heavy device can slide out vertically"...were you referring to the 1520 specifically? Do you have the 1520?
Yes, I have a 1520. Outside of my Note, it is probably the heaviest device I have used in the mount. After making the previous post I made an observation. If I apply a bit more force when putting the phone into the mount, I was able to get an extra "CLICK" on the locking mechanism. This has secured the phone enough that it is not sliding out of the mount when in horizontal mode. Regardless, I still believe the foam needs to be changed after the two+ years of usage. I'm sure I will be taking a look at what 3M has for the task.

I completely agree with out of line of sight. I hate having things on my windshield. An added benefit in my car is proximity to the AC vents. I can direct a vent at the phone or away if I needs to cool down.

I just got this and am happy with it. I have it set up in Landscape mode with the suction receiver glued to the dash. I prefer a dash mount that keeps the phone below the line of sight through the windshield. It does not interfere with the buttons or charging port. As such the orientation is different than the picture linked, instead of sticking straight up the mount arm is horizontal.

The AmazonBasics mount is a good mount for a dollar less, but lacks the pivot point near the suction cup.

So, my Incipio Feather and Yesoo cases showed up today. Surprised how nice the Yesoo actually is considering the price. The only reason I bought it was that the $7 it cost me saved me more in the free shipping I got when buying both cases. With that being said, I decided to mount the Rokhard universal mount to the Incipio case as it lookeed cleaner wih the "blacker" case. I got the grey Yesoo and like other reviewers have said, it is slightly opaque.

In the first pic below, you can see the mount I was using up until today. Was an off the shelf, spring load mount that looks similar to the one in the post right above this one. Springs were tight and was a slight pain to get the phone in. I also don't like the way it utilized my windshield space. To the right of it, I placed my old ProClip USA mount for my Jeep. I simply removed the iPhone 5 mount and screwed the main plate back in.

    image.jpg

The next pic shows the Rockhard plate stuck to the ProClip mount in the proper orientation. What's interesting is that the holes in the Rokhard piece lined up with the screw holes in the ProClip unit, but the angle was off. I could have simply turned the ProClip base to the correct orientation, but the screws weren't lomg enough anyway. So the Rokhard piece is simply taped to the unit as they instruct.

    image.jpg

The last pic is the Rokhard mount attached to the Incipio case. I've included a side view as well...about as low profile as you can get and still function the way they designed. Pretty sharp.

    image.jpg

    image.jpg

I'm going to let the tape/glue set for a few days before I use it as the "click" is a pretty strong hold (I tried the mount before I attached to the phone. Will post a pic of the whole thing set up once I trust it to hold.

I received my Amazon.com: Mountek nGroove Snap Magnetic Vehicle Mount for Mobile Devices with Yellow Safety Sticker: GPS & Navigation today and here is a quick review.

I was surprised at how small the mount is but it means that its a efficient design IMO. The magnet is very powerful and it hold the 1520 just fine. I even tried it with the phone facing down and to my amazement it stood up to the test. Shaking it up and down, the phone will drop. The real test will be driving tomorrow and see how it hold up TBH. I will edit the post tomorrow.

Here are some images of my setup with the White Nillkin Case: http://sdrv.ms/1gNuYT3

Was able to use my new mount setup this morning on the drive to work and loved it. Phone doesn't block any access to the stereo and visually is less obtrustive than it was when mounted to the windshield. Nice and clean and provides perfect access to power from my stereo's USB port.

The "click" with the Rokhard universal mount is quite strong...I need to tighten my ProClip mount even more to prevent it from twisting slightly when I remove the phone...not a big deal.

This is what I use Amazon.com: ExoMount Touch CD Slot Car Mount for iPhone 5S/5C/5/4S/4, Galaxy S4/S3/S2, Galaxy Note 3/Note 2, HTC One Smartphones (Black): Car Electronics, Exomount CD slot mount. and it fits nicely for the 1520, even with the case with just tiny modification. With this mount I wanted the phone to be held in the center of the mount, and with the power button in the center, the case came in handy with the rubber button for the power cut off, preventing it being accidentally pressed when mounted. If it goes to sleep all I gotta do is dbl tap the screen and its back on.

It may hold on the clip end, but I have never had success with goose neck mounts, no matter how short and stiff they seem to be....they always bounce when in the car and it was the most annoying thing to me.

Let us know how it works...maybe someone figured it out...

I'll let you know. I also have an iOttie on the way that I got for $5 from Best Buy with some giftcards. If it works I'll probably return the iOttie but if not I'll use the gooseneck for around the house. I think it would be cool to use connected to my nightstand.

I have the IoMount working with my old ProClips car mount. I had to make some adjustments to have the setup work with the 1520. I had to take off the original adhesive from the metal ring. The original couldn't handle the 1520's weight. So I used Krazy Glue which worked great, had I put it in the right spot.

I first tried placing the ring directly below the Incipio Charging Case's charging element in the center of the back of the case and it was very stable there. But the metal ring interfered with the wireless charging plate operations in that position. So I pried the Krazy-Glued ring off (marring the appearance of the case). The charging would only work if you bullseyed it. So I re-glued it halfway between the charging element and the bottom of the case and it was still stable mounted in the car and now charges without any problem.

I have since come across another interesting option for mounting the 1520 -- the Nite Ize Steelie. Very small, very inexpensive very strong magnet mounting.

I just ordered the ProClip center mount and holder with tilt swivel without the charging station ($69.66l, including a %10 discount with promo code) and plan to have an extra micro usb cable in the car. Have you received yours yet? It looks like the one without the charging station may not hold securely in the vertical oriention as there appears to be no base for the phone to rest on.
I haven't used any of their models which don't have the charger built in, but I'd imagine there would be some sort of obstruction at the bottom end of the holder to keep it from sliding further down, all it takes is less than a mm of plastic on the perpendicular plane. I would be really surprised if that wasn't thought of. Plus, these things so far have always fit nice and snug, they've all had that GI Joe kung fu grip without being uncomfortably tight. I don't anticipate any sort of issue with it holding the 1520 securely in place.

I've been using a Universal Vent Mount from Bracketron (~$15) with my TomTom Via1605TM GPS, which has a 6" screen and is very similar in size to the Lumia 1520.

Received the (pricey) ProClip center mount and holder yesterday and installed it. Couple of observations: it fits the 1520 very tightly, so that there is no way to use a case with it, at all... will have to remove the case each time I use it. In fact it is such a tight fit that it's also a bit problematic with my Zagg shields (front and back) making it difficult to inset and remove. It looks like the edges of the shields will begin to lift off with repeated use.

How one can use the device for both music playback and navigation at the same time without voice command interruptions? Every 15 seconds or so, my music is stopped and the street names blasted out at a very high volume, making it intolerable.

I'm a huge fan of ProClip mounts, I've used them for different phones in different cars over the years, and they've always been the best quality available - totally worth it.

Can anybody here weigh in on the iOauto or other magnetic solutions? I have a Bracketron magnetic mount, which I love for other phones (Lumia 920, 820, 830, iPhone, etc.), but the thin metal bit doesn't fit inside the case of my Lumia 930, without disconnecting the flash and/or wireless charging, and stuck on the outside of the case makes it not work with any other mounts.
