1520 on straight talk

So I signed up with straight talk at the beginning of the year and ditched Verizon. At first, I was told that my 928 would work on the BYOP program. After pulling the trigger, I found that it would only partially work.i.e no LTE, 4G or mms.

Well, I sold my wife's 928 and got her a 920. The LTE and mms are working great now. But on my 1520, while I do get 4G and mms is working, while the two phones are right next to each other, and otherwise, the 1520 won't get LTE.

What gives?

Is it the recent LTE sim? The older one's don't work with LTE.

I would assume its newer. I purchased two kits from WalMart at the same time. My wife's 920 has the micro sim and it has the same apn and mms settings that I have, but hers has blazing fast LTE and mine doesn't. When I go into the test mode, all of the fields under LTE are marked as "na". Yet ST ensures me that my line has LTE activated.

Do you get LTE on the 1520 if you swap your wife's SIM with yours?

Okay, finally got LTE working. AskStraightTalk on Twitter got me fixed. Problem? Not sure and neither are they. As a last ditch effort, they reset my account and a few minutes later I had LTE. So, now I have a beautiful Lumia 1520, working perfectly on ST.

Congratulations on finally getting your LTE working. I have ST on the 1520 too, but my issue is different. I get LTE, but my push notifications are delayed, at least by 10 minutes. Whats app, email notifications come 10 minutes later. Do you have this issue? Do you mind sharing your APN settings? Thanks in advance.

No, I haven't had any issues with notifications, push, or live tile updates. Actually, I've noticed a marked improvement, over my previous Lumia 928 on Verizon.

Really appreciate your help. Can't thank you enough. I have the exact same settings. I tried it through both cellular and the APN settings app, didn't make any difference. Did you do any changes in the field test? I am starting to think this issue is from straight talk, but you know how their support is. Thanks for your help.

Access Point settings override Cellular settings, afaik. The only changes I made in the field test config, changing the polling time from 3ms to 1ms. I don't think this will effect your issue, though. I will likely change it back because I am noticing, about, an hour and a half shorter battery life.

On your email and app notifications, what do you have the sync settings at? I have my email set to push. Most apps will be delayed, unless they are Microsoft or Nokia official apps.

As far as help from ST, yes, customer service sucks. The best help you can get is from @askStraightTalk, on Twitter. They will help you. And if there is a resolution, they will be the most effective, within their organization, to find it.

Email settings are set to push ( as soon as the item arrives). I can confirm this issue is related to the data/service provider cause when I am on wifi all the notifications are instant. Also, before when I was on the non LTE sim I never had this issue.
Thanks for the twitter tip, I will try that out. Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it.

Hey, same question, did you need to unlock your Lumia 1520 to get it to work with straight talk? I was about to buy the simcard a few minutes ago and the guy at the store had me doubting it.

Update:
Figured it out. The Straight Talk sold in Walmart is different from what they have on their website. I just ordered the AT&T compatible chip so I guess I'll just have to give it a few more days. Thanks anyway.

Sorry, just saw this...
I am using the micro SIM from the WalMart kit. I used a template from the interwebz to cut it down to NANO. I fo get LTE. As long as the 9/10th digit(of the SIM id) is 25 and not 23, its the new LTE version.

And its a factory 1520 with no tweaks or unlocks.

I decided to move over to Straight Talk on my 1520 also but no matter what settings I try I can't get any data or mms working. Honestly starting to get a little frustrated with it and wonder if it's not just worth the extra money and move back to AT&T

I switched from AT&T to Straight talk and here are my APN settings. Hope they work for you. These settings may not give you LTE speeds, but will get you 4G until you talk to the fools at Straight talk. If various APNs aren't working, check and recheck what you put in. I used MNVO instead of MVNO and got no data or MMS because of it.
