Well guys just wanted to drop a line and say hello. After selling my SP2 and L920 last year, I decided to drink some Apple/Android kool aid. I can write a thesis on my experiences over the past 9 months, but to sum it up let's just say I'm so so so glad to be back in the Windows camp!!!!

To celebrate my homecoming I snagged a SP2 2 days ago, and I'm awaiting my L1520 from AT&T which will replace my GN3. Hopefully I will be complete upon its delivery, and take advantage of Windows built in ecosystem features.

I've been a long time member of this forum, but somehow when I attempted to login I kept received login failures...so I decided to start with a fresh username and all. Guess that's what I deserve for jumping camp :)

Anyway I will most likely be popping my head in from time to time just to get some info on my L1520. For the time being I will scour the forums and try to digest as much information as possible to get me back in the know how of Windows Phone 8.

    See ya!!!!

    Gm,

I ended up purchasing my Lumia 1520 last night...couldn't wait any longer. Of course I had a long night because of the "new toy syndrome", and now I'm paying for it. One thing I noticed, while downloading apps and setting up accounts, my speeds were horrible although my router was 5 feet from me. Immediately after I set everything up I was prompted that a update was ready to be installed. After the install the problem was remedied :)

I'm loving this phone and feel at ease with windows and its features, as well as with its shortcomings which will improve with time. In the past I was signed up with the Windows Developer Program and usually installed beta updates for my phones, and noticed after the update last night I now have the features that were once in beta. Are there any new betas out there under this program to take advantage of?

    Cheers!!

If you are on GDR3 and Nokia Lumia Black firmware update, you have the latest. Beta for WP8.1 presumably is coming in April so hopefully we'll be able to grab that via the MS developer program.

I have to say, I have a 920 for personal use, an iphone for work, and a nexus 7 , and it makes me appreciate what WP8 does well. Unfortunately, it also calls attention to some of the glaring shortcomings of the WP8 platform (cough notifications, cough), and the missing apps

I have a L920 as my only phone and the lack of a notification centre has never bothered me in the slightest.
I'm not sure how I'm going to react when the action centre arrives with WP8.1. I'll probably have a meltdown or something.

Same here, I don't think I've ever missed a notification/action centre. For me the live tiles really do the trick. I'm not one of those ppl that have 25 messenger apps. BTW how do you guys spell it? CENTRE or CENTER. I can tell you aren't from the US :)

Welcome back, hope many will follow you.

To me the most important notification feature is Nokias GLANCE. You see the 5 most important app notifications and don't have to turn anything. Even better then LED Notification where you still have to check at least the lock screen to know what notification came in.

But the WP8.1 notification centre will still be very important to MANY WP users.

Thanks everyone for your warm greetings!

Regarding notifications, coming fresh off the heels of the GN3 I'm not finding myself missing a notification center that lags, crashes and constant refreshes even though its equipped with a Snapdragon 800.

I set my important tiles on the main screen so that at a glance I'm aware if I need to react to a specific notification. The only feature I would personally like to see is a Google Now equivalent, and it appears Cortana is in the pipeline.

One thing I use to love about Android was the ability to root and rom my devices going all the way back to 1.6. However, I found that with rooting and rom'ing there were always niggling issues as a result of customizing outside the sandbox. When 4.0 released I retired my rooting and began accepting my phone as it was out of the box. The biggest downfall of Android is the fragmentation with receiving the latest software updates, with manufacturer/carrier red tape tactics. Take a quick look at XDA forums and you'll see what I'm talking about. I appreciate what Microsoft has done with WP and how they are progressing, it is without a doubt my platform of choice. Based in my 2 day experience with the 1520 I have yet to see a hiccup while scrolling, switching screens etc.

Wrap up...as the old saying goes, "the grass ain't always greener on the other side".

Install the Preview for Developers App from the WindowsPhone store. If a beta is available, it will prompt you, of course your 1520 warranty will be voided:-)

Welcome back. I got an N4 for my travels, my work travel app sucks on WP - so that I can rebook flights/hotel quickly if things change while I am on the road. I played with the N4 a bit last night and decided I am going to use it only while I am on the road, for daily use it is going to be the Lumia 810. Even though my daily driver did not get Lumia Black, I have Preview for Developers so I have about 90% of the Lumia Black features on it.

    .
...but, when the full version drops, install it and delete the developers app. your carrier will be none the wiser.
