So the 930 (Icon) has been announced and the specs are very similar to the 1520, and I can't decide which to get. What's the difference between the two? I will most likely get the 1520 but it would be nice to know. Thanks guys :)

From what I gather, it comes down to: do you like the bigger screen and battery or would you like something a bit more convenient with less battery life? If bulk/screen size isn't a concern for you, it may be a good idea to get the 1520. However if you much rather have a smaller phone and aren't a huge power user, the 930 may be a better fit.

One warning about the 1520, it seems like they still haven't fixed the screen sensitivity issue, so that may be something to consider as well. Maybe it's fixed in WP8.1, but we won't know without real world use.

The difference is 1 inch. Really, that's it. Same chip, same camera, same software. And 930 has AMOLED while 1520 has IPS LCD.
Oh, and 980 mAh more in 1520. According to gsmarena, 1520 has much better battery life.
Oh no wait, 1520 has SD card slot, 930 doesn't.

I don't believe the 930 supports a SD memory card or has Glance.

Yeah they are basically the same phone except for screen size and memory card. If you're a heavy user, go with the 1520. Bigger battery and SD support. If you can live with the smaller battery and no expandable memory than go with the 930, it looks pretty nice.

1520 has a bigger battery, Micro SD Support, Larger screen, Nokia Glance support, and action center will have an extra prompt button.

930 on the other hand is smaller and lighter with a smaller screen, no Micro SD Support, smaller battery (2,420mah compared to the 3400 in the 1520) no glance support, and I think the build quality is using a different material.

I went to have a look at 1520 the other day. Its massive, I could not fit it in half my pockets so I can't buy this phone. The 930's 5in looks perfect. Its surprising how big the 1in makes it.

1" doesn't sound much (2,54cm sound more), but calculate the extra area that you get, and the difference is amazing. Massive screen isn't for everyone, I hardly convinced myself to bump from 4,2 to 4,5 (but you can't really compare 16:9 vs 15:9 diagonals, they're different) and I almost find it to big (925 is quite wide for my hands). However, my aunt always carries her phone in the purse, and can't see very well, so she loves the size of the 1520 (she maxed the font size and all!) It's a good think there are plenty of options for everyone :) (or you can push the iPhone one-size-fits-all game and lose costumers because they want bigger screen (which was the case with my aunt))

Differences: 1)1520 has SD card 2) 1520 has IPS LCD and 930 AMOLED (it mainly comes to personal preference, LCD has better color reproduction but the AMOLED have more vibrant colors with deep blacks). 3) Size (which I assume you are already familiar with). 4) As the 930 doesnt have display memory, it doesnt support the Glance Screen. 5) Design (for example the 1520 is thinner but the 930 has aluminum sides)

PD. I would also bet that the 930 is more resistant due to its smaller size, the aluminum sides and the fact that it is thicker.

    EDIT: I almost forgot the battery L1520: 3400mAh / L930: 2420 mAh

The Nokia Lumia 930 in the US is the Nokia Lumia Icon (on Verizon Wireless). Only difference is that the 930 has an extra motion sensor to take advantage of Bing Health & Fitness apps while the Icon & 1520 does not.

I would buy an unbranded and unlocked one to replace my wife's 920. I bought the international 1520 (RM-937) for myself.

Hopefully by the time Nokia release the 930, they find a work around to enable Glance. That's the only feature I would be missing if I wish to upgrade from my 920

    So...
My wife's HTC Mozart finally was dropped and was about time for an upgrade. The local T-Mobile shop offered to upgrade both of accounts to the Lumia 930, so we jumped on it. While I've had the 1520 for 6 months now, I decided to try out the smaller brother 930. After 4 days of use, I've decided to go back to the 1520. I like the 930, but using a phone quite often at work and listening to music in the car via Bluetooth, the 930's battery just couldn't hang. I work 12 hours per day so the 1520 albeitthe larger screen lasts so much longer. The 930 was at 20% by 4 pm while I usually would have 50%+ left by 9 pm with the 1520. Also, I got used to the 6" screen. I am 5'11" with maybe normal sized hands and enjoyed using the 1520. The 930 seemed the same weight even though I know it's lighter. With the 930 having great blacks, in direct sunlight it cannot match the 1520's IPS from my gathering. Hope this helps someone.

I have both devices. I used the 1520 for about 2 weeks, before I got the 930. I have to say now after using the 930 for 5 days, that I miss the 1520... Will be moving back to that next week. The battery on the beast is amazing.

Honestly, I am finding it difficult to make a choice between the two. The Lumia 1520 seems to me an old gadget but funny enough has same specs like 930. I don't even like the sight of WP8 anymore (I can update to WP8.1-I know) 930 has no glance, no SD card, can't imagine losing all those features! MS is playing games with us, I need an upgrade for my 920 and MS is not helping at all!

I can list cons of 1520 over 930:
    - Bigger battery
    - SD slot
    - Better screen
    - Support Glance
    - Support Qi charge (international model)

And here're some feature that depend on your own opinion:
    - Design of 930 or 1520 (IMO, 930 has better look)
    - IPS or AMOLED (I prefer IPS)
    - 5' screen or 6' screen
    - 930 has Gorilla Glass 3 while 1520 has 2

So, in summary, unless you want the design of 930 and cannot handle the size of 1520 then 930. Otherwise, 1520 all the way...

    P.S:... oops... old thread...

I am in the midst of considering a possible switch from my 930 to a 1520. There's just something appealing and attractive in the 1520, compared to the 930. Glance perhaps?

In the same boat but the only thing bothers me is that next month it will be one year old phone so I am worried about the support the older phone might not get. Not the OS ones but the firmware ones.
