I think the 1520 might actually be the best device out there for at least another 12-18 months. I mean, even Android devices haven't really upped the specs that much in the past year and we really haven't heard of new hardware that is set to come out anytime soon that will actually revolutionize the industry. Everything thus far released by Android handset manufacturers have been more gimmicks than anything else.

I've always been the type of person that upgrades phones roughly every year and my 1520 was preordered in November. That means I will probably get the itch to upgrade again in another 8 to 9 months. The upgrade from a 920 to a 1520 was absolutely worth it for me. Bigger and higher resolution display, dual core to quad core, 1 GB RAM to 2 GB RAM and a 8.7 MP camera to a 20 MP camera. But I've been asking myself, what new hardware can actually come out the next holiday season that would really get me excited about upgrading from the 1520?

Is it 4k displays? Could that truly make a difference on a 6" display?
Octacore processors? On Windows Phone, that's negligible.
Is it more RAM? Again, on Windows Phone, that's negligible.
More camera megapixels? I'm not a photography buff so that doesn't help me.
Foldable phones? Maybe in 3-4 years.
Holographic displays? Again, maybe in 3-4 years.

We can pretty much install full blown Windows 8.1 on the 1520 so I just don't see anything that would actually make me upgrade this year from the 1520.

What does the 1520 community think? Have we hit a hardware plateau???

From what I can see you'll probably have a hard time going back to a phone with lower than 15 mp? :P

Dust and waterproofing similar to the Sony Xperia Z series comes to mind. That's a really cool feature, and I think it would be nice to take pictures/videos in the pool without having to worry about a case.
Camera technology is another thing, while you're not a photo buff a lot of people are and everyone loves having a better phone camera.

Other than those two features I can't really think of what else they could add or improve. As you said I think the current Snapdragon 800 will last a very long time before anything else could be needed and the same goes for the RAM. Build quality might be argued to the people who want an Aluminum Iphone/HTC One like phone but I think the Lumia 1520 has a really appealing design to it.

I believe ( gutfeeling ) that the 1520 / 1320 are going to be the only two 6" models.
Dont ask me why, its just a feeling.

I think the next innovation should be better battery life! 2 and 3 full days with out a charge with heavy use

I'm sure Nokia will do another phablet the Lumia 1520 seems hugely popular with consumers and people on this forum seem to really like it, not to mention it's also reviewed very well. I imagine sales for it are strong.

I hope so, i like the formfactor.
I have a 1320 even with its "low specs" i dont complain.
Water/dust proof is something i would like to see, but not only on the 6".
