Hello, has anyone gone from a 1020 to a 1520? If so, why? I currently own a 1020, but kind of want the 1520 since the hardware is much better with much more battery life. I just would like to hear your guys opinion. Thanks.

I have a 1020 myself and my wife upgraded and got the 1520. I must admit I am blown away by the beauty of the 1520. I love the 1020, the camera is awesome and it does everything I want it to but I still long for the 1520 in red. The battery life on the 1520 is amazing, my wife used to have to take a charger to work for her previous 920 and now she comes home with 40-50% left on her phone. It is a hard compromise, switching that 41mp cam for the horsepower and beauty of the 1520.

Does the camera of 1020 really make that much difference?because I get really good pics in daylight .yeah night pics can see improvement due to small aperture.
But since I havent used a 1020 dont really know the extent of difference.but I think the overall trade off is worth it.

I have the 1020 myself.. and it would be real hard to give up my 41MP to upgrade to a 1520, though I do love the bigger screen and SD card support. I guess i could always have both phones...

I've owned both several times and the 1520 is a better overall device.

I just recently went from a 1020 to 1520. The trade-off is the slightly-inferior (but only just) camera for a larger screen, SD card slot (up to 128GB), quad-core processor (makes the Camera app much more responsive, complex web pages respond faster, etc.), and large battery. Haven't looked back.

Yeah. Must admit I have that thought before I purchased 1020 but I guess my 1020 still deliver performance that I want. Maybe time will tell...

Also the ability to use any scanning app that isn't Bing vision returns, like barcode scanners. The 1020 was too far sighted for that kind of macro work and none of the app devs enabled zooming so just continuous refocusing, I think I successfully scanned one barcode since the 1020 launched, and it was the wrong one. But Bing vision worked fine with that mega camera.

The camera of the 1020 is awesome but I feel the 1520 is more future proof as far as updates go as well as future apps. I worry that the 1020 might not be...

    I love my 1520

I have to agree on the future proofing aspect. Plus I'm a bit of a spec brat....that processor is tempting. I think I'll go upgrade tonight to the 1520. I know they are going to tell me it's too late, but the shipdate on my order was the 1st so according to their own policy I am within my time. :)

I just upgraded from the 1020 to the 1520. I've had the 1520 for a few days, and I'm already used to the 6" screen.

    My impressions so far...

    Better:

Specs and speed is noticeably faster.

Screen is a game changer. Once you get used to it, took me a day, you can't go back. My prediction is eventually all phones will be 5.5-6"

    Worse:

LCD instead of AMOLED. Blacks on the 1020 are 5x better than on the 1520, where they look grayish. This bothers me the most. I wish they had a 6" AMOLED device.

Camera is a tad bit worse, between the LED vs Xenon Flash to the raw sensor, the 1520 is good, but feels more like a phone camera, where as the 1020 feels like a point and shoot/low end DSLR. I'm going to be buying a Sony RX100 for trips because the 1520's camera isn't good enough to completely replace a camera.

Does not have an awesome accessory like the camera attachment with spare battery like the 1020 has. I'm really going to miss this on trips, but won't be using my phone as a primary camera so hopefully that'll help.

Battery life on 8.1 has been terrible. Something is draining the battery like crazy and I can't figure out what it is.

    Bottom Line:

I'll be keeping my 1520 as I can't go back to a smaller screen. If a new model comes out late this year with AMOLED/on screen buttons/improved specs, I'll buy that too. I can't go back to a smaller phone.

    I went from a 1520 to a 1020...then BACK to a 1520 :)

While the 1520 is large, its really nice to have that extra space for tiles (and have them be a reasonable size). I also feel perfomance was better as well. Cameras are similar, and while it may not be a big deal for most - i prefer using a phone that uses the new nano sim standard. I switch phones quite often, and most high end devices that i care for use that. Makes it easier to swap around.

Rumor also has it that 1520 will get Miracast functionality as well.

I am using both now. 1020 for personal phone and the 1520 as a work phone.

Battery life is hands down the 1520 win. I charge it every other night with 3-4 hours of heavy daily use. Not so great on the 1020 and I have to charge it every night during weekends.

The big screen is a big welcome for emails, documents and photos viewing. However, I love the display of the 1020 as it has really accurate colors.

Size wise, I love my 1020. At work, I leave the 1520 on the desk all the time and even when I'm out and about I toss it into my bag and won't even consider putting it in my front pocket. It's just too big.

I sway to the 1020 on photo quality. This is a no-brainer. I don't even lug my D7000 on short road trips anymore. I'm planning for one and I've decided to bring only the 1020, camera grip and a Joby's GorillaPod. It's really that good for me.
