Beastgrip with the Lumia 1520 [ongoing review *UPDATED*]

Hi all! Couple things...

I'm mostly brand new to the Windows Phone experience. I had a HTC 8x for a short while a couple of years ago, and I loved it, but it did not survive a fatal fall to the concrete and ended up going back to android (iOS... no thanks). For my recent upgrade through At&t Next, I decided to give it another go, this time with the Lumia 1520.

Yesterday, I ordered a Beastgrip for my Lumia 1520 (there's a sale on their etsy page for $15 off the total price with code BG105). It should be here next week, maybe Monday or Tuesday. I plan on updating this post with pictures and my initial thoughts, if ya'll will be interested. I spoke with the Beastgrip designer, and he said that the Lumia 1520 will fit, but with extended pieces that he included with my order. So... fingers crossed! I'm pretty stoked to try it out. I looooove my 1520 so far, and I think this will just make me love it even more.

Okay! So my beastgrip arrived and I've got it setup. I've been in contact with the developer through this whole process, and he's actually redesigning parts of the Beastgrip to better accommodate the 1520. But even as-is, the phone does fit and the whole kit works as intended. Here's some pictures of the 1520 inside the Beastgrip chassis:















I'll continue to update this thread with images, once I get the new re-extended parts that he's currently working on. I'll also include some shots I took while the 1520 was inside the Beastgrip chassis.

Also, to note: my 1520 is inside a snap-on case. It fits with or without the case, but I never go naked with my phones, so, the case stays! Thankfully, it fits just fine either way.

What type of lenses can you use,does it have any additional Xtra power capabilities,and specific apps to utilize the various lenses?

@soloxc thanks! It's a 2010 PK Ripper by SE Bikes. They don't make this kind of frame anymore, I don't think. Joint venture between them and the BMX brand to make a fixed gear with a sturdy, kick-tire kind of frame design.

It has a 37mm thread for lenses to screw into, and you can use step-up adapters to attach larger lenses. In theory, it supports most lenses, if you have the right adapters or thread sizes. It also has mounts for cold shoes, levels, tripods, monopods, grips, and so much more. It's the definition of versatile haha.

As far as apps are concerned, the stock Nokia Pro apps work really well. There's no dedicated Beastgrip app or anything like that. And as far as power is concerned, it's not powered nor does it support power running through it. I'm sure you could mod it do so, though...

Update:

I've been in contact with the developer and providing feedback in regards to how the 1520 fits inside the chassis of the Beastgrip. After some brainstorming on his end, he was able to come up with a newly redesigned extension that will better accommodate the large hulk of the phone lol. He sent me some images of what he's come up with, and he's also sending me the new parts next week, so I'll be able to update you all further then!

Not at the immediate moment- he's sending me the extensions over the weekend, so I can do a trial-run with them to make sure that they fit and work as intended. Once I do that, he can finalize the design, and then should be able to get the extended parts to other 1520 owners. I think he's going to make an announcement of some kind, when they are ready to go.

I'll also update here once I get the new parts, and provide as much information as I can for anyone that is interested!

My 1520 will be here wednesday. And I am totally on board for this if he's making a custom one just for us. Very nice if they can fit the 1520, at first glance I was having doubt about fitment with 1520. I am also surprised you got a communication with the designer. I went to their website and emailed them a few times asking about fitment issues with the 1520 but I just got brutally ignored. Hope that they will come out with a revised version soon.
