Re: 1520 or 1020?

Lol. Scaredy cat!

In all seriousness, the recommendations come out of testing at the time of publishing specs. Technology advances by the time things have sat in the market. For instance I have an SD card in my 808 that's well above "official" capacity, and it's been working without issue for a very long time.

Lol well there's the scaredy cat aspect, and there's also the 'do I really want to spend the extra money when I probably don't need to' aspect :winktongue:. I think if I traveled a lot and took a lot of videos and photos I'd need the extra storage, but being around PCs all day every day (work and home), I'm good with the 64gb of total space. Though I don't see myself running out of space anytime soon, it will also encourage me to dump my data onto my pc more often, slightly minimizing the risk of losing it should it only be on the microSD card were it to fail one day. I did strongly consider the 64gb card over the 32gb though.

Re: 1520 or 1020?

thanks everyone for the advice
i also took a look at the Nat Geo photos at Rio(National Geographic - Nokia) with both the lumia (1020/1520) look amazing
just to get the price so u understand the difference in the price:
the lumia 1020 cost 777$ (at the duty free in Israel) and the lumia 1520 cost 2915 NIS=838$ (1$=3.4 NIS)

Re: 1520 or 1020?

I'm just poking fun, as you know. 128GB for me, is not only is expensive @ $1/GB, but way too much for my needs. 32GB hits the sweet spot with 64GB being a nice to have option for the 8.1 features of being able to put apps on SD card.

Re: 1520 or 1020?

I'm currently arguing with myself with weither to get a Z30 or the 1520. I believe the 1520 is a much better device than the 1020, the only downside I see of the 1520 is the size, WHY COULDN'T THEY MAKE A 1520 MINI!!!!!!!!!! I WOULD GRAB THAT IN 2.38594384 seconds!

Re: 1520 or 1020?

the lumia 930 (ICON) is the mini (5") version of the 1520 (samespecs)

But very different design (uglier, for me), no microSD support and no Glance Screen. It's a whole other device in my opinion, not a mini version of the 1520 at all.

You're seriously arguing with yourself over a Blackberry vs Windows Phone. I applaud your impartiality sir. :D

Edit: After looking at the Z30. Wow! Not a bad phone. Love the little kickstand and accessories. That AMOLED screen probably is excellent too.

Re: 1520 or 1020?

Ultimately, the 1520.

That 1080p screen is just too tough to give up. Having and SD slot is necessary on all my future phone purchases.

Re: 1520 or 1020?

As long as you can live with the screen I will say get it . When you buy phone buy the best and greatest for your money .
1020 might be good but for normal user 20 megapixel camera is fine ..

Re: 1520 or 1020?

I had a 925, and just picked up a 1520. The size is......you have to get used to it. Its a lot to hold, though I gotta say it is SURPRISINGLY pocketable. That said, the 1020 is based on the same hardware as my 925, only with more ram. The 1520 is night and day on a lot of newer apps as far as speed goes, and, over the next two years the speed differential is only going to get more extreme. The 1520 is a more future proof option.

Re: 1520 or 1020?

Either way the camera on both is still better than the 4s, I would go with the 1520, but if your a picture person go for the 1020, personally 20MP is more than enough for me

Re: 1520 or 1020?

If you don't mind the size, go for the 1520. It's the perfect balance.

If you can live with 32 GBs of storage without an SD Card Slot, go with the Lumia 930.

If you LIVE for the 41 MP camera, then the 1020 is nice.

But I prefer the 1520 out of the three phones

Re: 1520 or 1020?

Thanks everyone
I put my hand on a LG CURVE. So 6" isn't a problem
But puting such a big next to the head is weird
So I think a 4.5" is good...

Your ear won't notice a difference between the two phones. I think it is mostly psychological because some people think a bigger phone looks silly. In fact, I think the pendulum has swung the other way. Most people I know think iPhones look silly because they are so small. Good luck with your choice.

Re: 1520 or 1020?

The 1520 need to be used with a nano sim not micro sim...

To have 4 medium till ?

Re: 1520 or 1020?

1520, not even a slight contest. The 1020's camera is nice and all, but it runs on hardware from the beginning of 2012. The 1520's hardware's fairly-new, and is almost the same as what is in the Galaxy S5. Really, what you're asking is if a camera is enough to downgrade from S5 hardware to S III hardware, and I say nay.

Re: 1520 or 1020?

Not sure how much this will help but...

I have a 1020 at the moment and held the 1520 for the first time over the weekend. OMFG that thing is enormous. I briefly owned a Note 3 at one point and the 1520 makes that thing look "mini". Incidentally, I also held an Icon for the first time and loved the screen. Personally, I think I'll keep the 1020 around as my camera (I have the camera case) and will import the international 930 once it's available as my primary phone. I am starting to dislike the extra heft of the camera bump on the 1020...

Re: 1520 or 1020?

While a big decision, it really isn't that tough:

Do you:

-Love photography?
-Dislike huge phones?

If yes to either or both of those questions, the no-brainer decision is the L1020. I understand there is no SD card, but 32G will be fine. Lets face it, you will back up your photos and you are most likely not a huge gamer/media streamer, so that 32G will serve you well. The screen tech is fine for basic web browsing and light gaming, and the device is much easier to pocket. There is no contest in cameras. Those that say the L1520 is not much worse then the L1020 are correct, and also obviously not users who love photography. The L1520 is good- the L1020 is amazing. It still is a great device and will be supported with WP 8.1 and firmware updates for at least the next year.

Do you:
-Stream videos?
-Love gaming?
-Love bright, vibrant, detailed screens?
-Need more then 32G of memory?
-Want a more future proof (maybe over 2 years VS. 18 months or less) device?
-Think bigger is better?
-Like, don't love, photography?

If yes to all or most of those questions, then, the L1520 is the no-brainer decision. The quad-core processor and the much more powerful internals will power games, updates, and background tasks much more fluently then the L1020 over the lives of each device. The screen is a hi def monster, and could be used as a headlight in case of emergencies. It is amazing. You can expand the memeory, and you can still take above average photos, better then most smartphones out there. It is HUGE, but everyone who owns it on these forums say you get used to it fairly quickly.

Price seems to be okay for you, so I say just don't kill yourself over this decision. Most of the advantages are with the 1520, but if photography is your thing or that big of a device just isn't, then the 1020 is a great toy you will not regret.

Re: 1520 or 1020?

I don't LOVE LOVE photograph
Most of the pic on the phone are from a vacation and work
And the 16gb iphone isn't full (but no music inside)
Bigger could be better if u use the phone also as a SAT NAV (here drive/waze)
Huge is not a problem (the 4s is the size of the palm of my hand)

Onther thing is that here (Israel) the phones are without a contract that include the phone price
But only the 1020 is official release here so in case of problem there is a "mother and father" I can turn to and not a private store

Re: 1520 or 1020?

First off, let me say that while I was in the U.S. Navy, my absolute favorite port-of-call was Isreal. I had the best time of my life there. The Holy land tour (very special for me), horse back riding, the people, the food- all just incredible. Loved your country.

Guess I need one more piece of information: What do you mean "official" release? Do you mean carrier branded? Or that Nokia has a L1020 for Isreal, but not a L1520? Does this mean you can go to a local store for the L1020, but not the L1520?
