Re: 1520 or 1020?

Can someone clarify this if this is True? :D

GPS like Garmin almost have the same price. That is my dilemma now LOL. (Dedicated GPS vs. Nokia Lumia phones)
HERE maps are great. At least in the States, I find they tend to not have as many "shortcuts" as dedicated GPS devices, but why pay extra? If you travel for a living, the GPS is worth it. If not, HERE maps will be excellent.

Yep just need it for basic City Driving/Travelling.

Plus yes, I bet Maps/Navigation is much better on a bigger screen in regards to the topic.

1520 gets my Vote.

Re: 1520 or 1020?

the lumia 930 (ICON) is the mini (5") version of the 1520 (samespecs)

Really?

930

Expandable memory card type: No
Display technology: ClearBlack, OLED
Battery capacity: 2420mAh

1520

Expandable memory card type: Yes (Up to 128GB)
Display technology: ClearBlack, IPS LCD
Battery capacity: 3400mAh

There are a few differences, some may be a deal killer. I know that with 8.1 installed, I will never buy a WP with no sd slot unless it has 128GB of storage built in. But both phones are as powerful and run great. It (930) would be a perfect phone almost if it had a sd slot.

Re: 1520 or 1020?

I have tested both for an extended period, and I would go with the 1520. The 1520 is such an awesome device, I don't know where to started.

41MP pictures of the 1020 are great, but so are those of the 1520 - even though they are "only" 19 MP, they are still pretty darn sharp. For viewing on your phone or even on larger screens, the quality would really suffice. If you want to make professional pictures that you will edit a lot, you might want to go with the 1020, but only if the camera is the most important thing you need.

Why the 1520 is great:
- it doesn't have that huge buble at the back
- modern hardware (snapdragon 800), 2GB, wireless charging, 6" full hd IPS screen, 3400mAh battery
- the size is great if you do not have a tablet at your disposal. You could watch movies on this device, whereas a <5" screen is too small to really enjoy the movie. Games are really nice to play on such a screen as well
- it has an SD-slot, so you can take as much pictures as you want

The only reason why you should choose for the 1020 is because of the higher picture quality. (Let me tell you that the average person will not see the difference between a picture taken by a 1520 and one with a 1020, at least not at first sight.) On all other specs, it is less powerful than the 1520.

Re: 1520 or 1020?

1020. I've had an iPhone and Androids but lately had the Nokia 800, then the 920 and now the 1020. I loved the 920 but really enjoy the amazing camera on the 1020. The zoom is incredibly useful in day-to-day use. My Canon DSLR sit at home while the 1020 go with me everywhere. I don't get the lack of SD card being a big deal. I have tons of apps and games and offline Spotify music alongside hundreds of photos and videos. I have downloaded the hi-res pictures off the phone one time in five months. So, memory is not a big deal (unless you get the 16Gb version).

As for battery, yeah, if you play Asphalt 8 it drains quickly. If you take photos and videos, have NFC, WiFi, 3G/4G, Bluetooth on with push email and Twitter and Facebook, along with Podcaster lounge and news/weather apps in the background the phone lasts all day.

I would have enjoyed a mix between 1020, 1520 and 930. The 6" of the 1520 is just too big for me in everyday use. I want my phone with me in my shorts on the boat, in my pant pocket, in my suitjacket and lots of other places and the 1520 would be too large. Also, it's nice to be able to use the 1020 one-handed.

The only downside with the 1020 is the pentile screen.

Good luck!

Re: 1520 or 1020?

i would say the 1520 is better than the 1020 except for the massive screen (i have a large glove size and cant even use the 1520 with 1 hand) and the camera in the back if u use it for taking photos and scanning documents. personally, i would recommend going for the 64gb 1020 if u live in a country that has telefonica, or waiting for the alleged 1820 unicorn phone with the pelican camera in the back (which was hinted at by nokia) and the rumoured 5.2 inch 2k screen, 5mp front camera, massive battery, 805 processor.

Re: 1520 or 1020?

First off, let me say that while I was in the U.S. Navy, my absolute favorite port-of-call was Isreal. I had the best time of my life there. The Holy land tour (very special for me), horse back riding, the people, the food- all just incredible. Loved your country.

Guess I need one more piece of information: What do you mean "official" release? Do you mean carrier branded? Or that Nokia has a L1020 for Isreal, but not a L1520? Does this mean you can go to a local store for the L1020, but not the L1520?

Not carrier brand.
Here every company has a Representative (has the rights to distribute the phones to stores and carriers) so this is what I mean official.
I can now buy the L1520 but if something is wrong need to trust a local store and not a company...

That might change things a bit. Having local support is important. I am sure Nokia will stand behind their L1520 if there are problems, but having to send things away is no fun.

I still might advise you to go L1520. The only advantage the L1020 has - smaller size, photo awesomness- do not seem to be that important to you. If you can call a local store or the national Nokia rep and get any kind of assurances that it will be supported, I say go for it. If not, then just follow your gut.

I do think you would enjoy the L1520.

Re: 1520 or 1020?

Not sure how much this will help but...

I have a 1020 at the moment and held the 1520 for the first time over the weekend. OMFG that thing is enormous. I briefly owned a Note 3 at one point and the 1520 makes that thing look "mini". Incidentally, I also held an Icon for the first time and loved the screen. Personally, I think I'll keep the 1020 around as my camera (I have the camera case) and will import the international 930 once it's available as my primary phone. I am starting to dislike the extra heft of the camera bump on the 1020...

Really? It's mostly on my hip but occasionally in my pocket and I do not even notice it anymore.

Re: 1520 or 1020?

I have both but my wife is using the 1020 because I didn't like it mainly because of the hump on the back and I didn't find it very comfortable to hold. I went for a 925 instead of the 1020 and still have them and love them but the 1520 is in another world with everything except the camera when compared to the 1020

If you are into photography then you will like the 1020 but at the same time if you are really into photography then you will find the 1020 limited. Before you all gang up on me for saying that I am not into photography but I am repeating what two of my friends have said about the 1020 and they are professional photographers.

The reason I went for the 1020 was because it was newish at the time and it had 64gb and coming from android I was afraid that I would miss the sd card.

If you're into browsing the web and gaming on the phone then I would definitely go for the 1520

I had a note 3 as well and I find the 1520 easier to use. It also feels a lot better in the hand, I think that is down to the weight distribution of the 1520

Re: 1520 or 1020?

Yes but sadly it lacks SD card which i just cant be without, still a very nice phone.

Personally i use BT headset all the time so the size isnt an issue, just got my 1520 and its beautiful. I just want to show it to all my friends :D never thought i would buy a Nokia (since they abandoned meego) and even less a WP but i was wrong in a good way.
