Screen does not immediately display when needed

There is always at least a 1 second lag between the time an event happens (phone ringing, message received, alarm sounding, etc.) and the time the screen actually lights up. So, when my phone is sitting next to me, when one of those things happens, I hover my finger over the screen for a second and wait for it to light up so I can do anything. I used to have an HTC 8x and the screen would always light up immediately.

It's running Windows 8.0.10521.155

Any solution for this?

do you have a lot of apps open?

I always keep it a point to keep apps minimal. Everything else works lightning fast, just this particular event of the screen lighting up from being black.
