Nokia Software Recovery "could not read phone information"

cannot downgrade 1520 (ATT) to 8 via Nokia Software Recovery Tool (1.4.3, USA) to get Cyan.

Same with 920 and 1020 (Tried also, in case 1520 was at fault). The computer is what I regularly sync them to...

Anyone have any advice/link/etc to fix this?

EDIT: 1520 has been reset (via settings, not hard reset). I used have multiple USB cables. I have used multiple USB ports. Just about the only thing I have not tried is multiple computers... mostly because I currently only have 1 (that has a hard drive in it).

I'm having the same issue with no luck. The program has an option where you specify that the device does not boot up.
I'm guessing that should be a way to get it to work but I'm not sure I should try it.

I have a spare 920 I could test on I guess to see what happens.

I was attempting to do the downgrade on my SP3 and kept getting errors, I switched to my NUC and everything went well. One thing to try is this:
