1520 it 1020

I know this has been talked about at length, but in light if new OS versions and new devices, I was wondering what you guys thing. I am thinking of switching from my iPhone 5s. I got a lumia 521 from Nokia when I switched so they would pay off my verizon ETF, and I'm really enjoying the interface. I especially am drawn to the more powerful phones for speed, size and phone strengths. On that note, I'm torn. I'm pretty tied to the Mac ecosystem, but the reason I stayed on the iPhone so long was because of the better music apps (which I don't use on that small of a device anymore anyway), so now is a perfect time to switch.

So what do you think? Better camera (1020) or better longevity (1520.3)? I can get the 1520.3 for cheaper then the 1020 as of now, and my nano sim is an easy swap into the 1520. It does seem a little big, but I just used my friend's note, and it didn't seem that big at all. What do you guys think?

If it was me i'd go with the 1520 for long term support, better hardware and the camera at 20mp is not to be turning your nose up at either .

I had a 1020 and switched to a 1520... You will feel it big the first day, but then you get use to its size and it will feel perfect... The battery lasts all day! No other phone does that with heavy use of apps... The camera is the second best Nokia has... Big screen... Better processor.. It will be able to use all the best features of the new update (demin) .. It also has Miracast support.. I recommend you the 1520.

To be honest I had both and I love the 1020 more. I know its slower, its screens not as good, its bulkier, but the 1020 offers amazing pictures and F.M. Radio. It's also built to take a hit on the ground. But my favorite part is the speakers. They are absolutely great, just not to loud and not to low. Where as the 1520 is to big, not as good camera (don't get me wrong the cam is awesome) no F.M. Radio, it is heavier than must phones, and it is no where near as durable. It's like $400 to replace the screen if cracked . Overall I have had alot better experience with the 1020. (btw I had 2 1520s and it because 1 had some weird bright white spot that continued to spread.)

FM Radio is available on the 1520.

I'm slightly prejudiced, but LUMIA 1520 (I have it in RED) - the camera is a slight step down from the 1020, but still better than most smartphone cameras. (& you have a micro SDcard)

I would love the red, but the rm-938 that's works on LTE for t-mobile seems to only come in black, yellow, and white (with white being $130 more for whatever reason)

I'd go 1520 esp for battery life. A long lasting battery is so satisfying - it is like heaven; esp for heavy users.
Even last year's 2013 Galaxy Note 3 cannot match the 1520 for battery life.
The Lumia 1520's battery life is the best of the current crop!
Hopefully Nokia doesn't lose it with the 1525 with 805 processor & QHD screen.

For several months, the 1520 was too big & heavy for my hands, but now I've gotten used to it...

Do you think it would be wise just to wait for the 1525? My iPhone can last long enough, and I believe it is coming to T-Mobile - so I don't have to worry about what bands work for LTE in my network.

I've owned both but you must be kidding if you think the 1020 is better. Aside from the camera and a user's screen size/type preferences, 1520 trumps in every way. Qi (1520.3), SD card support, 1080p, Snapdragon 800 and its features (motion data, soon passive listening, living images), the extra microphone and HD audio recording are all factors in this.

The 1020 is also not "more durable." In fact, the oleophobic coating was heavily scratched on mine within two weeks of use simply from taking it in and out of my pocket with nothing else inside. The 1520 is heavier yeah... mainly because it's larger than most phones.

I do agree with you that the camera is better, but shot-to-shot time on the 1020 is abysmal. I also never fully got rid of that yellow tint in certain lighting conditions.

I have owned both also and absolutely confident that except for 1020's awesome camera, Lumia 1520 has better specifications. But I still using both for on my day-by-day.

I bounce between both on a daily basis, the 1520 is faster, better screen and the battery are awesome but the size is rather big for one handed use. The cameras are great in both and with the 8.1 update the 1020 camera speed has gotten better. It's a tough choice but either way you will get a great phone!

I'm biased as well since I have a red 1520. I don't know if the average user can tell the difference between the 1020 and the 1520 full res pictures. I can't. The 1520 is a bit bigger than the Note so you might want to visit an AT&T store. The 2 gigs of RAM do make a noticeable difference on the 1520 (no "resuming") and the IPS screen is more natural. If you're coming from an iPhone then you won't care about SD storage but the 1520 supports 64GB cards.

You can't go wrong with either one, good luck.

I have no crystal ball, but a speedier 2014 Snapdragon 805 processor, and more pixels via a QHD display? The next Lumia 1525 may be much more power hungry than the current Lumia 1520.
The current Lumia 1520's 2013 Snapdragon 800 is quick enough, and the HD resolution good enough.
I'd go for the current Lumia 1520.

You don't need too much.
If the 2014 1525 is better than the 2013 1520, then the 2015 Lumia 1530 will be better again; like a dog chasing its tail...

I have both a 1020 and a 1520.3. Both off contract.

I took approximately a month to adjust to the larger size of the 1520. I now use the 1520 as my primary mobile device.

For me, the battery life was paramount. Once the camera in the 1020 is employed to its full capacity, battery drain is significant. A camera I can use is better than a dead camera no matter what the specifications of the dead camera.

I don't see much performance improvement for general operations. I do see a noticeable performance increase during camera operations.

The ability to store data, apps, and music on a microSDXC card obviates the periodical data/app cleaning I find necessary in a internal memory only device.

Long story short, for me: 1520
