Does anyone know of a windows8 app that will help with finding good restaurants and hotels while I do a road trip across the country, or is cortina the best way? And is the AT and T navigator the best gps app?

TripAdvisor or Yelp. Cortana gets much of it's information from Yelp however, so they should be somewhat comparable.

Here Maps on Desktop.... It uses Trip Advisor to draw from... Great for scouting and everything you favorite syncs to your collections on your phone so when you are in the field you can access all that research. Your marked places show on the map as well as other points of interest and of course, Here is great for navigation. Be sure to download your maps to your phone before you go.

I used this combo before and during a month long trip overseas. PC + phone at home and Windows 8.1 Tablet + phone abroad. I never felt like I needed anything else.
