Is a Lumia 1520 in good condition a fair trade for a Lumia 830 in good condition?

Is a Lumia 1520 with a small crack up top a fair trade for a Lumia 830 without any cracks but with rough or moderate wear around the housing?

I dont think so since, the 1520 is superior. But then again since its technically an older device the market price probably isn't overly high.
I think a direct trade for a 930 would be more like it though.

I'd try to get some cash bundled with that 830.

So essentially your saying 1520>830 right? So a Lumia 1520 with a small upper crack may be equal to an 830 in brand new condition? In what condition do you say an 830 would have to be for it to be equivalent to a 1520 with one or two small upper cracks?

I'm no expert so I'd check out the market prices for similar condition phones.

    1520 > 830 yes.

I'm thinking a mint/great condition 830 is more like it, but I'd also like if other people, maybe more qualified people chimed in on their opinion.

Also depends on whether the devices are locked or not.

FWIW - I don't think a cracked anything is going to be a fair trade for a mint 830.

On the 1520, 930, Icon, and on and on, it is very, very, difficult to replace a cracked screen with anything other than a completely new LCD/touchscreen assembly. For any of the above phones, that assembly is around $150 all by itself. So, you can subtract the cost of the screen from the value of any of those phones right away, before you even test their functionality, or value their other wear and tear.

I wouldn't trade a mint 830 for a cracked screen 930, and I think the 930 is about the best phone ever made. But, that's just me I suppose. The repair cost is just too high for me. Someone who intends to use it as is might pay more.

The value of a 1520 with a small upper crack is entirely in the eye of the buyer. Some people wouldn't pay $40 for it, while others would pay $150. It depends on what the buyer is going to do - refurb it, or use it as is.

Like Xandros says, if one of them is unlocked, it may change the value a bit.

All other things being equal (condition and functionality), a 1520 is worth more, and is a better phone. Cracked screens kill value, unfortunately, because they are so expensive to replace.

    Just one fool's opinion.

When I was shopping for my 1520.3 the 830 was only about $50 less.

A brand new 830 (Unlocked for Latin America) is still getting $420. Unlocked for US markey is $450 on Microsoft Store and locked to ATT is $420 with a free FitBit Flex.

The price is what it is and when Microsoft unveiled the 830 many were surprised at the price point.

Take the above any way you care to. Then consider what the crack in the screen means for your 1520's value.

I do think the 820 looks to be a solid all-around device.
