I'm i need pf upgrading my phone (925), and the 1520 looks stellar, especially considering how cheap you can buy then now. Is it still worth getting?

There is a seller on Ebay selling flawless unlocked AT&T 16 GB 1520's for $179. Mine just came in today and it's literally brand new, not a scratch. I think they're actually overstock. What a massive upgrade from my 640 and the 640 isn't even bad. From the reviews I've seen and actually trying demo models of the 950, the 1520 is in a lot of ways is still king (battery life, screen size, ability to run 8.1 which is lets face it faster, and lets not forget the current price tag). I'm getting 2g 4g and LTE straight out of the box w/out touching APN settings with my T-mobile SIM, SMS & MMS are also working without doing anything. The 1520 is definitely still worth getting, go for it.

If You want the BEST windows phone possible but aren't interested in the 950 & 950 XL, then the 1520 is the next best thing.

It may be old. But what does that even really mean?

It has only one successor ahead of it, Windows 10 will run smooth on it for many versions to come, and if your not too scared you can replace the battery with a new one to eliminate effects due to age.

As far as how it fairs against rent flagships.. Camera is just as good if not better than many of the latest Android & iOS devices, battery life should be better than most, and it has many modern features that have been gained over the past months (HDR, 4k recording, Dynamic flash, New W10M stuff). There's also Qi charging. It will only continue to gain new features as Windows 10 progresses throughout 2016 also.

The 1520 IMHO will continue to be a great device to use well throughout 2016, but by the time late 2016 comes and the second wave of W10M flagships come, THEN will be the time I feel the 1520 should be put to rest as it will likely have greatly better upgrade options.

I just went back to a 1520 from my 930 & it's still awesome. Try to get the euro version they are slightly more expensive but you get q charging and bigger internal memory

BlackBerry refugee, here. Looking to come back to Windows phone (I've used a Lumia 521 and still have a Lumia 822 that I use as a "PDA" because it has a defective noise cancelling mic).

The 950 really intrigues me, especially Continuum. But I'm also very budget conscious, buy all my phones off-contract, and don't like to spend more than $200-$300 for a phone.

If I can't have a 950 right now, my next choice is a 1520.

Long-time users, is it holding up well for you? How is the camera, really? And any tips (other than the great ones given so far) for someone wanting to get a 1520 for the first time?

I've been a Lumia 1520 owner for about 3 months now. It's really a great phone and the camera is really nice! Upgraded from a Blu Win HD and before that I had a L920. There's a big difference in performance and the big screen is really enjoyable. Haven't tried WM10 on it right now because it's my only device.

Yes it is. I just ordered one from eBay after realizing the 950XL may never come out for T-Mobile. Gave my G4 to my dad and going back to the best phone I have had. I'm sure it can keep pace until the Surface phone comes out. :)

I sent my beautiful yellow 1520 in for repair and they've had it forever. I contacted them yo find out what's up and they said it needs to be replaced and they don't have any yellows.

So yeah...
